Born into a herd of other Friesian horses across the sea, Hephaestus was never truly accepted among them. When his mother saw his deformities she was horrified and his father attempted to 'end his suffering', resulting in permanent scarring across his body. He survived, despite their attempts, and lived as an outsider among them. As a two year old he decided to relieve them of their burden and left them for good.
New to the land of Beqanna, Hephaestus finds himself upon the island of Ischia in mid-winter. He is immediately greeted by Klaudius who questions him. Luckily, Brennen intervenes followed by the land's guardian Krone. He is welcomed to stay there, however, he decides to move on. It's on his journey through the mainland that he finds himself in Taiga where he then stumbles upon AuroraElis. Enamored by her beauty the two strike up a conversation and he witnesses the early birth of her daughter. Protectively, he escorts her home to Tephra where he leaves them behind.
As Spring breaks the Goddess Nike travels to their lands and challenges them all to participate in her games. He performs valiantly, but wins no glories. Defeated, he finds solace within the forest where he is accosted by Jesper. The two hold a heated conversation that ends with Hepha storming away, insulted. Emerging from the thick forest, he meets Erinys and the two share a kinship due to their similar plights in life. Somehow, just as birthing season is underway, he wanders into the fold of Hyaline where he meets Solace. The two enjoy each other's company and Hephaestus is offered a place among them. Uncomfortable by the offering, he flees and finds himself back among the trees of the forest. It's there that he meets wound. He finds himself struggling to comfort her in the dark of the forest. When they part je is unsure how to feel. Trailing along the river, alone once more, he is catapulted into a dreamlike state. Unwillingly, he is met by Kagerus. Because of his meeting with the mare he decides to make his way back to Tephra. Slinking along the outskirts he stumbles upon Diavoli, AuroraElis' colt.
