Fiasko was born to Depravity, a crazy, homicidal mare with a belief in blood superiority (that is, the blood superiority of her family). Fiasko was born with a non-identical twin, Else, with whom she was conjoined at the head (the right side of Fiasko's head and the left side of Else's head). Depravity was horrified when she saw that they were conjoined, and in a fit of rage, ripped them apart, badly mutilating both twins. Thinking them an abomination (and a blight on the bloodline), she abandoned them separately so that they could not stay together. Fiasko ended up wandering the territories outside of Beqanna, barely surviving on what little food she could scrounge. She grew weaker and weaker and eventually ventured into Beqanna, ending up in the meadow. There she was discovered first by Kaelie, a mare from the Falls, and another mare called Delaware. A stallion called Etojo came upon them and, thinking Fiasko unworthy of living (being small, weak, ugly and close to death), tried to attack her. The two mares tried to defend her, but before the stallion could strike Fiasko, a hellhound (unknown to Fiasko, the shapeshifter Tarnished) suddenly appeared and attacked Etojo. In the ensuing fight, Kaelie rushed Fiasko to the Gates, where she and her love, Finnley, both decided to adopt Fiasko and raise her in the Gates. Fiasko spent much of her time in the Gates hiding, afraid that the other horses of the kingdom would reject her for her face. She spent so much time hiding, that she missed Finnley and Kaelie rising to the throne of the Gates, the birth of her adoptive sister (Camelia), the adoption of another sibling (Mast) and the subsequent bequeathal of the Gates throne to Camelia. She tried to become a more active member of the kingdom, wanting to make her adoptive parents proud. She tried to recruit, and to help Gates members during the magical wildfires that burned through the Gates, but accomplished little. Eventually she began to have more success. As well, a stallion named Jason joined the Gates and helped the kingdom to become more active. Eventually, Camelia decided that she was not suited for ruling and decided to step down. The remaining members of the Gates voted to have Fiasko and Mast take the throne. Fiasko was initially quite shocked at the suggestions, but she gradually became more used to the role, and blossomed into a far more confident mare as queen. She also began a romance with Jason, who saw past her facial scars to the person within. Their romance led to two children - twins - called Sidra and Sahm. While Sahm was the quieter of the two, Sidra became the bane of her mother's existence until she was old enough to become a little more independent. Eventually, both Jason and Sahm disappeared, leaving quite the hole in Fiasko's life. One day, while wandering by the adoption den, Fiasko came across a young filly all alone. The filly mistook Fiasko as her mother and Fiasko did not have the heart to correct her. She decided to claim the girl as her own, and called her Caitlyn. Throughout this time, Fiasko was always aware of something missing in her life. At a very young age, she was able to remember her sister, but time and trauma wiped most of it away. As she grew older, on rare occasions she was still able to feel a heartbeat and warm, comforting presence at her side, but she had no idea where this came from. Soon after adopting Caitlyn, the Gates was raided by the Chamber. In order to protect her kingdom, she struck a deal with the leader of the army, Gryffen, and agreed to go to the Chamber as a prisoner so long as the Chamber soldiers left the Gates. On the way back to the Chamber, Gryffen decided to add insult onto injury and raped her, and she became pregnant. Upon reaching the Chamber, the queen Straia extended Fiasko's deal with Gryffen, and promised that so long as Fiasko stayed in the Chamber, no harm would come to her or the Gates. Fiasko agreed, and soon after gave birth to Gryffen's son Zayn. Zayn was a cruel, violent boy, and grew up with an intense hate for his mother and her perceived weakness. He ended up joining the Gates army and starting a herd of his own. Eventually, driven by his own hate, Zayn tricked his apprentice Siberian (a boy he had kidnapped) into killing Fiasko while in bear form (Siberian was a bear-shifter). This event helped to jump start a war between the Gates and its allies, and the Chamber and its allies.
