    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Shocked
As I walk into the gates, Ruen is before me. "Sorry I'm late, but I'm a wee bit slow." I say, apologetically. I instantly fall in love with the place.

It’s a beautiful day in the Gates.  The weather is sunny but windy, a lovely combination.  Fiasko has spent the day in walking distance of the Mother Tree, enjoying the sun - it's been quite a while since it's been so warm.  Caitlyn is off somewhere playing at the moment, and it's nice to get the peace and quiet while she can.  Though Caitlyn of course is never the one bothering her, rather, it’s usually Sidra.

She’s considering walking over to the river, one of her old haunting grounds as a child, when the scent of an unfamiliar horse reaches her nose.  She perks up immediately.  A new scent generally means one of two things in the Gates - diplomats, or newcomers.  Curious, and a little hopeful (the Gates can always use new members), she decides to track down the source.

It takes her a little while - the kingdom is large after all - but eventually she finds the stranger.  Her face splits into a crooked smile the moment she spots the roan mare.  "Hello there!  I'm Fiasko.”

I look at the black sabanio mare. Her names Fiasko, she tells me. "I'm Nadyah, but you can call me Nadie." I notice her scars. "So, could you show me around? Reun brought me here." I said nervously. It wasn't the scars that made me feel this way, it was having a home. A new home.

Her scars don’t even enter into her mind as she greets the mare. It’s a bit of a wonder really, how far she’s come. There had been a day when she’d been too terrified to even come out of her little hiding places in the Gates, afraid of being rejected for her face.

She’s a far cry from that scared little filly now.

She nods politely when the mare introduces herself - “a pleasure to meet you Nadie” - and her crooked smile widens when the roan asks to be shown around. “Of course! How about we start with the Mother Tree.” She’s pleased to hear that Reuen brought her here. Hopefully she’s here to stay.

She turns away from the mare, pausing once to make sure she’s following. She walks until she reaches the Mother Tree and its surrounding garden. “This is our Mother Tree. A magician enchanted it into being once, but Beqanna has taken the magic from it. The garden still has magic though - eating the fruits will force you to speak only the truth.” An odd addition, she thinks, one that they’ve not made too much use of so far. But, perhaps that is simply because they have no reason to lie about anything to begin with.
