QOTY
"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

I look at my surroundings. The trees have icicles that look like claws and teeth. They moan in the wind. The snow is blue in the early morning light. If only mother were here. I feel a tear. Mother. She gave her life so I could live.

I feel something I haven't felt before. Utter joy. I get up at the mares gentle beconing.
"M-m-my names J-Johnathen. I-I'm lost. My mother died and I came here. Can you- can you be my mot-mother?" I say, teeth chattering in the cold. My winter coat hadn't come in all the way when the snow fell.

I basked in the warmth she put off. It was warm and comforting. She asked if I got used to eating from the ground. "Yes, my mother weaned me early. Where we were, there was a famine. So she gave up her share of grass for me. She also died nursing me on her side 'cuz she was to weak to stand." I feel bad for dumping this on her, but I can't control it. Her death was only, what, three days ago?
