    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The forest folded around those that sought its sanctuary its branches willing to hide and embrace the things that wanted to be there. MoonFeather had tucked herself into this land and after a journey to the field had proven a distraction and a welcome one she came back to the woods. The draft mare fell into following a wandering herd of elk that called the forest, the field, and the meadow their roaming homes. Moon fell into line and was just happy to roam with them. The bulls did not bother the large mare and the cows did not find the horse a threat either. Autumn had brought with it the rut season in the herd and they had gathered in the large open areas of the forest or the meadow. The bulls had made their calls to battle and the clash of antlers had rung out through the lands.

MoonFeather had watched it all with a passing interest. Cows in the herds gave the victors the run around  seeing if they were really worthy of passing on their family line. The chaos of it all ended with the first winds of winter that tossed up the frost. Moon settled into the relaxed life once more as the cows and bulls separated once more into their social casts. The forest was a fine winter home the branches above held back the deeper snow but, this was a double edged sword. The snow might not have been a problem in these places but there was little grazing to be had.

Though all one needed to to was keep moving and searching. Moon stood amongst her adoptive family and grazed at the edge of the trees. The start of winter meant that the snow had yet gripped the life out of the land and so they all wandered slowly. Moon stood with her head raised watching out for a moment. The mares winter coat had come in fine leaving her looking like an exploded cattail almost. Her ears twitched a couple times listening to the world around her at the moment.
