    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Chel still isn’t sure what to think about the new land she’d discovered in the sky. The cloud world had been interesting, to say the least. But her trip had been a short one. Not that she could have extended her time there if she’d wanted to. Atzi never would have consented to an extended stay in such a place.

The ocelot had been lounging in the treetops when she returned to the ground. Even after all this time, at least the meadow still felt familiar. Chel let out a soft sigh and shifted her wings against her sides.

Something snaps across the bond - something foreign, sick, wrong.

Atzi’s mind flinches against hers like he’s been yanked by an invisible thread. Chel freezes mid-step, every sense going taut.

Then she feels it again. Something in Atzi’s mind - in her own - like being doused in cold water. Atzi physically recoils, yowling loudly from the lowest branch of the Oak she’d been lounging in. The cat drops from the branch, her muscles stiff and her eyes glassy in a way that makes Chel’s stomach twist. But it’s the pressure in their shared consciousness that concerns her the most. Someone’s in there.

Chel’s eyes narrow as she searches for the source of this…this invasion. Which became painfully obvious the moment she set eyes on the…whatever she was.

“Hey, fish girl,” Chel’s calls out, her voice deceptively lazy given the rage building beneath her skin, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” There’s something decidedly feline in Chel’s stance - her gaze. But then again this little fishy wouldn’t know that Chel’s spent just as much time in the bodies of jaguars and tigers as she has her own skin. “She bites,” she said, with a grin as sharp as glass.

Chel has no idea what she’s doing but she mentally finds that glowing bond between herself and Atzi…and shoves. The shifter mare has no finesse when it comes to the mind, but she can hear Atzi snarl which only makes her push harder.
