here I don't have to be quiet - Fazia - 10-29-2025

FAZIA
This translucent mare had been enjoying her quest, the little tendrils of the new power and testing out how far the boundaries of her abilities were. And the routine she had formed up where she would wander and browse the other inhabitants of the common lands, looking for someone interesting to try possessing. She didn’t want to be mucking about in just any old brain now.

Soon winter would be here and she’d leave the surface in favour of the less-fickle waters where she wouldn’t have to worry about disgusting things like snow and ice.

Ugh.

Right now, though, Beqanna was rather lovely and the falling foliage made it a little easier to spot potential guinea pigs. Like this colourful mare and her… Woah. Fazia stops dead in her tracks as soon as she spots the little cat in the tree. She didn’t have a whole lot of experience with felines – didn’t even know the silver-slit appearance of her eyes mirrored those carnivores. She had seen a few in the distance here in Beqanna but that was totally different.

Distance could be shrugged off. Not a problem.

But this little creature was much closer and something in Fazia’s heritage let loose a little primordial warning. Nevermind that she wasn’t really a fish and she certainly was a fair bit bigger than this particular cat.

Curiosity draws her closer “What is that?” She asks the winged mare, thinking the animal to be wild and their proximity just a coincidence.

Can she possess it?

Oh, what an interesting thought.

Distracted, forgetting she had asked a question, Fazia tries. Why not! She wants the little creature closer so she can get a better judge of whether it’s a threat or not.

Her hold on this temporary power isn’t very strong so there’s no telling if it will work but she tries to get the ocelot to hop out of the tree.

Chel still isn’t sure what to think about the new land she’d discovered in the sky. The cloud world had been interesting, to say the least. But her trip had been a short one. Not that she could have extended her time there if she’d wanted to. Atzi never would have consented to an extended stay in such a place.

The ocelot had been lounging in the treetops when she returned to the ground. Even after all this time, at least the meadow still felt familiar. Chel let out a soft sigh and shifted her wings against her sides.

Something snaps across the bond - something foreign, sick, wrong.

Atzi’s mind flinches against hers like he’s been yanked by an invisible thread. Chel freezes mid-step, every sense going taut.

Then she feels it again. Something in Atzi’s mind - in her own - like being doused in cold water. Atzi physically recoils, yowling loudly from the lowest branch of the Oak she’d been lounging in. The cat drops from the branch, her muscles stiff and her eyes glassy in a way that makes Chel’s stomach twist. But it’s the pressure in their shared consciousness that concerns her the most. Someone’s in there.

Chel’s eyes narrow as she searches for the source of this…this invasion. Which became painfully obvious the moment she set eyes on the…whatever she was.

“Hey, fish girl,” Chel’s calls out, her voice deceptively lazy given the rage building beneath her skin, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” There’s something decidedly feline in Chel’s stance - her gaze. But then again this little fishy wouldn’t know that Chel’s spent just as much time in the bodies of jaguars and tigers as she has her own skin. “She bites,” she said, with a grin as sharp as glass.

Chel has no idea what she’s doing but she mentally finds that glowing bond between herself and Atzi…and shoves. The shifter mare has no finesse when it comes to the mind, but she can hear Atzi snarl which only makes her push harder.

FAZIA
Her attempt at possessing the little cat is immediately overwhelming. What she had thought was a wild animal is actually connected to the winged mare and through that bond she can feel the trail that leads to the mare's mind. It feels… cool. Incredible. She had not known such a thing was possible, to be tethered in such a way to another creature. A bond that felt familial.

At the same time, the yowl of the cat and the ruckus caused by such a little attempt at possessing it is alarming. Fazia really hadn't thought far enough ahead as to what would happen. That wasn't in her nature. But she was always willing to deal with the consequences.

Something pushes against her intrusion in the bond and she does try to switch gears to the mare but, ultimately, loses the train of thought and is successfully evicted. Focus returns to her slit eyes and she finds it easy to mirror the mare's grin as she looks down to the little spotted creature — matching the threatening energy with a low "Shall we see who has the bigger bite?"

Had Fazia been in the wrong and it was entirely fair to receive this greeting? Yes. Did she care? Absolutely not. The thrill of matching a threat with a threat was too delicious and shiny to pass up.

The pressure in her mind vanishes, leaving the air humming and her pulse thrumming in her head. Chel exhales through her nose, slow and sharp, her eyes never leaving the strange, translucent mare who looks entirely too entertained given the circumstances. She had, after all, just been booted out of another creature’s mind.

“Oh, so you do listen,” Chel says, tone dry. “I was wondering if there’s a brain floating around in that head of yours. It looks pretty empty up there.” The winged mare makes a show of squinting in the direction of the fish girl’s head.

Something alights in Chel when she sees the challenge in the other mare’s eyes - hears the challenge in her voice. The challenge lands like a spark in dry grass.

Chel’s feline grin widens. “Sure,” she says easily, “but I should warn you…”

The rest of the sentence melts into a low, rolling growl. Her skin ripples, bones flexing and folding as her shape unravels. Her feathers dissolve into black-and-gold fur, muscles tightening into a sleek, heavy frame. A feline frame. One many times larger than the ocelot.

When she steps forward, it’s on large paws, every movement lazy and coiled with promise. Her eyes - still molten topaz - the catch the light like a blade.

“I bite too.”

Atzi circles beside the now-jaguar, still visibly agitated about the situation.  Chel’s feline tail flicks once, slowly. “You first,” she says, her voice still dry - but the smirk on her lips is undeniable.

FAZIA
Fazia's grin doesn't falter when the colourful mare turns into a jaguar — if anything, it grows. Her black and silver eyes widen in surprise and delight and a small laugh even escapes her. Although there is undeniably a part of her itching for a fight, she knows right away that this is not one she will win. Not here on land. In the water she may have a chance, may succeed in drowning at least one of these cats, but… well, why would she when they are so entertaining?

She'll just have to save that option for another time.

Still, she's the daughter of warriors and she can't quite resist another comment, this time purred out in a voice at once both soft and dangerous. "Don't tempt me with a good time." Her grin is bright and feral, that delight palpable and the edges of the challenge still present until she blinks and it is suddenly gone.

Replaced by curiosity she doesn't hesitate to share.

The fact that she had just tried to possess the little creature is already in the past for her, eclipsed by this new and shiny information. "Can you turn into anything else?" And then a glance at the agitated creature. "Is that your daughter?"
