    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

you could break my heart in two, but when it heals, it beats for you

Let Heartfire ask her that question a year from now, months, or days even and the answer might be different every time. She has not yet reached the point where the answer is obvious and imperative. There are small answers, pieces waiting to fit together properly. The shape of the thing she is craving not yet done shifting.

Just as she is not done taking shape, not done accepting that the light and darkness of her must exist together or risk blowing each other apart. Or rather, she’ll just blow herself apart and force it all together. Meaningful growth seems to come on the heels of disaster...doesn’t it? Since neither of them seem to possess the ability to divine the future there is no notion of that disaster on the horizon today. Even if it may be just the start she’ll need toward an answer to that question.

She remains silent in part because she does not know what it is she wants, it does not have a name. It has a feeling though, a playful darkness that suits her. It is then she realizes that it does not need to be called anything at all, and it might even be better that it isn’t.

Heartfire knows her own mind. The little mustang is a tumbling whisp batted about by her own appetites. “Perhaps we can.” Though she knows not what it is that Heartfire herself desires, and maybe Kensa will regret saying so but there are so many things she does just to see what happens, what lies on the other side. Kensa doesn’t have any devilish one-liners to sling out and propel their friendship into motion and so she sighs at herself and only says “Where would you suggest we begin?”

    She's got the devil's eyes

Heartfire is not a woman given to whims. Nor is she one who is particularly easy to please. So that she finds herself rather whimsically pleased in the wake of this conversation could be either very intriguing or very dangerous.

Only time would tell which of those it is.

Regardless, Kensa had answered her questions exactly as she might have wished, and for now, that is more than satisfactory. While it’s true things today are far from decided, this is a very good foundation for the future to come. A foundation Heartfire has every intention of building upon. And swiftly.

Though the two women stand here on equal footing, she does rather hope her insights might dispose the Hyalinian caretaker to interest and, ultimately, alliance. Perhaps the gilted woman feels out of place now, but Heartfire rather hopes her words might give a place to ground herself. Especially considering how closely that grounding would no doubt align them. Ultimately, they really do have similar interests and goals. And to her mind, why not help each other achieve them?

Faint half-smile tilting her lips, she eyes Kensa with speculative appreciation as she demurely agrees with her observations. It’s a very good question. And one Heartfire had considered with great detail. She knows where she would like to begin. With luck, Kensa would be of the same mind.

“I suggest we begin with a friendship,” she begins mildly, almost unassumingly. “A mutually beneficial one, as it were.” Her eyes glint sharply at that, lips twitching slightly upwards. “I have information,” she continues after a moment, “and you… well, you are situated rather ideally over there, aren’t you?”

and they'll cut you like a weapon
