    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Then there came a sound,
distant first, it grew into castrophany
So immense that it could be heard far away in space

His searching had not gone well to be honest. Well, it was a bit obvious as he still had not found what he was looking for, and he had now been searching almost constantly for almost 2 years. He'd be met with frowns, confused glances, the shake of a head and words that only saddened him more and more. That was until someone gave him hope. "Yes, I do believe I recognize the name, but I have not seen them for a few months now. Last I saw him, he was heading north." But this was all Rile needed to hear, with hope in his heart Rile had left his fathers herd and decided to find his lost brother, even if it took him his whole life.
He wasn't sure what drove him to do this. Perhaps it was the guilt that he had willingly left his younger, weaker brother behind without so much as a glance back to see if he would be ok. Or maybe it was his determination and stubbornness. Once he had his mind set upon a task, he would not give up, and he'd only ever stop until he completed what he had set out to do.

His brown eyes searched the meadow, trying to find any silver black stallion. Dismay hit him only briefly as he saw none, but he was hopeful in that he would find something. He moved lazily across the meadow, if one were to watch him from a distance they would probably think he had no intentions, no where to be, no responsibilities. But he was walking slowly with reason, and though his head hung low, watching as his hooves created prints in the white ground, he was on full alert, ears pivoting back and forth, listening to anything that may give away the presence of anyone. He was on the look out for any that looked to be of the northern most point of Beqanna, hoping to find an invitation up to the ice wall. He knew he would not be welcomed north without an invitation or escort, and so here he was, seeking one.

Okay, so Mari easily confuses being rood for being curious. When something unusual catches her attention then she must go investigate. Sometimes it is met with strange looks but mostly horses seemed to entertain her inquisitive mind.

On this particular chilly day, the palomino is scouting the meadow out. It's was a flat, ice rink with the grasses having died off or been eaten. From living in the Tundra, the slender legs carry her bodily rather nimbly over the frozen land. One foot after the other as she goes exploring but then something catches a pretty blue eye of hers.

Like a peppercorn in a bowl of salt, a larger ebony stallion pops out but that was not the reason her attention is drawn. Nope!

    He has socks.

Not your everyday white or black stockings but crazy purpley, bluey, spacey socks! Mari catches herself staring as he is moving and wondering if she can do that with her coat (probably, duh). She doesn't exactly try to hid it but instead calls to him. "Hi there!" The young mare is moving, picking a delicate path towards the male. "Those are fantastic!" Her enthusiasm is a bit much but she just can't help it. A smile blooms across her lips as she mostly disregards his looks (probably of confusion).

When she realizes that she is being awkward...well, she tries to save a little face. "I'm Maribel, by the way." A tiny laugh quivers with her awkwardness. "You look lost. Maybe I can help you?" She's bold when she doesn't even realize it but Mari can not help but to help when she can. Compassion was something threaded to the stitching of her very being.

Rile is caught unawares by an approaching mare, face lit up like a child in a candy store. Her pretty blue globes locked to his peculiar socks. He watches as she nears and then is startled by the enthusiasm in her voice as she comments on his assets. "Well, uh, thank you" He says, not quite sure how to respond, it was not like he had a choice in being burdened with such bizarre looks, many saw him as strange and out of place, it was rare for him to come across anyone who actually liked his nebula styled socks, it was unheard of to have someone call him out in a field of others simply to comment enthusiastically on his socks.

"I'm Rile." He replies once she offers her name and some assistance. Usually he's not one for out right asking or help, and from the looks of her she didn't hold what he would see as a northern look. But he figured it couldn't help to ask. He rose his gaze to the sky briefly and then back to Maribel. "I suppose there is something you could maybe help me with. I'm looking for someone dear to me, my brother actually." He paused, wondering if after all this time his brother would even want to see him, and then he frowned at himself. I have to know.
"He was a silver black, our mother called him Neverwas. Quite the little one as far as I can remember too..." He trailed off, not liking to admit that he had left his younger twin to fend for himself. His ears fell back as quilt took hold, but he quickly wiped it off with a smile towards Maribel. Maybe she could help, maybe she knew where he might be, maybe she didn't, but knew someone who did. He could only hope.

It's as though an electrical connection is made as Mari makes a small gasp like noise catching in her throat. Neverwas? You're looking for Nevi?" Mari is flabbergasted. Oh all places and all things! Boy, was it Rile's lucky day! A smile moves over her lips as she begins to laugh gently. "Oh yes, I know Nevi. He is my brother too...well, adopted but still!"

Mari moves right on up to the stallion and turns to take his side with a large smile, her honey hued shoulder bumping his as though they were long time companions. "Well let's go Rile! Nevi is at home and I'll lead us there." The blue pools glitter brightly with excitement. Mari is absolutely thrilled right now, shifting from limb to limb as she waits for the stallion to give the 'go ahead'.

To be honest, he had never once actually thought he'd ever find his brother again. And in his mind he had already formed a story for his brother, where he lived happily with no pain nor any memory of the past. But when Maribel's words came upon him like music his face lit up, he stands there like a fool, not quite sure what to do with himself. Disbelief yet complete happiness taking over. Could it be, after all these years, finally his search ends. Finally he finds his dear brother. At long last. He shakes himself from his trance when Maribel's shoulder meets his and his smile widens -if that was at all possible- and he himself begins to prance on the spot, lifting his nebula painted legs up and then down. "Of course! Let's go!" He near on shouts, eager to see his brother. He had a family, his brother had a family! Rile was so happy that his brother had found himself a family, and from the few actions of Maribel, he felt he had found himself a good one. If they were all as bright and bubbly as she, he held no doubt in his mind that he was raised happy. Oh how he hoped.
