    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Don't Make Promises You Can't Keep; Sin Killer

    Clarisse
Within every little girl is a dream, a sweet innocent dream of which they can fantasize till their hearts content. Most foals like Clarisse would rather play and socialize. But this little girl would rather live her own fantasies as her mother had done in the little nook of their herdland a sweet little place where her mother called home. For Clarisse she was living every day like a fairytale, someday she'll be that damsel in distress and she'll find her prince charming. Someday she will find her prince and someday she will be a damsel in distress. But today was not that day.

Her mother had guided her to the playground in a thoughtful manner, thinking that her youngest daughter was in dire need of friends. Clarisse was a willing child and did as her mother said ,with tentative steps the girl strode into the playground. Her mother's hind quarters were now behind her, prancing for a few moments the whimsical girl took a look around, her ebony body slowed to a halt along with her wobbly slender legs.

Lips parted to speak but no words could describe the playground, it mainly consisted of a large patch of grass that for once wasn't colored golden like her home's vegetation. Trees guarded the outer edge of a slope, protecting the children from the dangers reigned above and, serving as a safe place for all children.

The little girl scanned the area for future friends, none of the individuals in conversation looked her age. Most of them were almost yearlings others, just seemed not too inviting. So, with steps of boldness she decided to find herself a little spot, nestled against the trees that guarded the playground from any means of danger. Taking a deep breathe Clarisse began to fantasize about that day, when she'll be in some kind of trouble, that damsel in distress and her prince charming will come rescue her from the horrors of her distress.

Sin Killer had never been one for fantasies.  From the start he had been almost absurdly stoic, with his head squarely on his freckled shoulders.  There was no fooling this young gentleman; the world at present was black and white, and the future was impossible to know -- so why spend time worrying about it?

Sin Killer had been lounging lazily in the grass, a little ways away from the other children.  He wasn't necessarily fond of being alone, it just so happened that he had not immediately been very impressed with the others his age.  The older boys, though far more interesting, would scarcely cast so much as a glance in his direction.  And so, like Clarisse, he had settled himself into an empty patch and waited to see what might happen.

He saw Clarisse before she saw him.  He blinked at her with his large, inky eyes, turning his head to follow as she passed.  Something about the way she carried herself made him smile, and suddenly a terrible feeling of shyness came over him like a wave.

For a moment he waited, expecting at any moment that the pretty little filly would be joined by some other kid their age -- but she settled herself down alone, and he knew he had just run out of excuses.

Sin Killer stood up on his long red and white legs, and gave his fuzzy tail a hesitant shake before setting off after her.  He had a bouncy, jaunty sort of walk -- now that he'd mastered his legs, he found that he loved walking and running more than almost anything else.

The young one stopped when he had come near enough, and cleared his throat.  "Uh, hello miss," he said in his slight country drawl, giving his head a polite little dip as he had practiced so many times.  "I hope you don't mind, if I, uh,"  He flushed, suddenly embarrassed by the way he stumbled over his words, and tried again.  "...Wanna race?"  He looked at her with his wide eyes, praying to god she wouldn't break his heart with something cruel about his social inexperience.
