    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Shaya strode through the bushes and trees, determined to keep some semblance of her pride even as the exhaustion she was feeling set in further and further. She had to keep walking. She hadn't seen the light of day for some time now, enough so that she had lost track of the amount of days and nights she had spent walking without rest. She stumbled once again, her foot having caught on a tree root that was raised slightly out of the ground. The dark horse collapsed, her knees hitting the ground and she bowed her head. What was she doing? There was no way she could make it on her own. But she had to try. She forced her long legs to straighten underneath her. She wobbled precariously for a few moments before fully gaining her balance and starting her walk again. She glanced at the small cuts and scrapes that had been sustained during her fall; they bled lightly but blended in with the dark coloring of her coat.

After what seemed like hours of walking she saw a small amount of light seeping through the trees ahead of her. She perked up her ears and forced her weary legs into a faster walk, and then a trot until she reached the clearing. Her dark brown eyes slammed shut against the harsh light, as they had been so deprived of the sunlight recently that it took her eyes a surprisingly long time to adjust. After her vision returned to normal, she took in the sights before her. The clearing was beautiful, with a small waterfall crashing into a pool of clear water and a layer of pure snow scattered across the ground, dappled with hoof prints of different sizes. She wasn’t quite ready to join the cliques of other mares standing quietly, so she kept her eyes down and walked to a small open patch near the waterfall and closed her eyes. An icy winter breeze ruffled the leaves and tossed her dark gray mane and tale, revealing the large scar that started on the top of her neck and ended just above the point the her shoulder transitioned into her leg. Shaya always loved the cold and this was no exception; she opened her warm brown eyes and embraced the frigid temperatures, untroubled and serene for the first time in quite a while.

all of us have a hero and a villain in us

The stag often times would stalk the field as new horses entering these lands for the first time would find themselves here. It was a chilly winter day, the frost was painful with every gust of wind; although the stag was used to the harsh conditions. As luck would have it a mare he has never seen before entered the field, she looked batter as though she had been traveling for a long time. A mare who needed a kingdom now more than ever perfect  he thought to himself.

He approached the mare with a smile and ears perked forward, although her coat was battered he knew once cleaned up she would make a pretty mare to claim. "Hello there miss, are you in search of a home?" he asked, curious to her reasons to be in the field. "I can offer you protection in my herd" he announced quickly, showing exactly what his intentions were. The mare could live in his herd and do as she pleased with the kingdom he resided in.

Shaya’s eyes snapped wide open as the scent of a stallion coming near her. She folded her ears flat to the top of her head and nickered a soft warning to the mammoth horse that had come up beside her, all the while knowing she could do nothing but run if he became threatening. She balanced her weight on her back legs, prepared to do just that. She knew she was pretty; (the only thing that marred her physique was the multitude of scars on her slender body) but she also knew what large, powerful stallions did to mares like her. Although he didn’t appear to want to hurt her, she kept her guard up.

“A home? I suppose I do need a new one.” She wasn’t quite ready to give up all her secrets yet.

Archam cocked his head towards the mare, she said she needed a new home but did not exactly say yes to joining his herd. "I can show you the falls, and you can decide later if you want to be apart or my herd?" Archam had no competition at the kingdom and was sure the beautiful blue mare would be his. He wanted her, her looks alone kept him interested. She had scars and he was sure each one had a story to go with it, he liked that. She must have been in a fight or two in her days and he liked a mare who could defend herself. His gaze was set on her, curious to see if she would accept his proposition.

Shaya allowed her stiff posture to relax only when she realized that the stallion was not a current threat to her. He was large, quite a bit larger than her, but she didn't allow herself to be intimidated by him. She weighed her options in her mind, she could go with the stallion and see his home, or she could remain here, unprotected and out in the open. She drew herself up to her full height and looked him in the eye as much as she could manage with the height difference. "I would love to see your home, and possibly be a part of it someday."

As the words left her mouth, a sliver of doubt crossed her mind. Had she made the right choice?

The stag smiled with glee as the mare accepted his offer to join the kingdom. He had hoped the mare would also join his herd shortly after there arrival, he knew that she would love the Falls the other mares there were friendly and would help her ease into the kingom life. All he wanted from the mare was affenction and kin, in return he would offer his protection. "than let us be on our way" he spoke and lunged forward looking back waiting for her to trail behind.
