    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    And inside you're burning
    with some secret yearning

She is a creature of the night, meant to exist in the ethereal light of the twinkling stars. She is one of them as much as she is a creature of this earth. She should walk amongst them, dance through the cosmos in a whirlwind of light and beauty. But she cannot. She is bound to this plane, cursed only to ever experience their glory from afar.

But they have graced her with their touch. Placed a kiss upon her forehead, granting her their light. A light that she might weave and spin into fantastic things. But it is an achingly hollow imitation. One she cannot yet fathom, but she knows with every atom of her being that she will never experience their true beauty. Never feel the ecstasy that she knows their full embrace would bring.

She is an echo. A lovely, graceful one, but in echo all the same.

She misses them when they are not there. The stars. She misses them as an armless man misses his cast-off limbs. They are her soul. She is merely the vessel to house them, and when they are gone, it is as though a piece of her has been ripped away.

In truth, they are not truly gone. Merely dimmed. But she misses them all the same.

She has come to the meadow today. She is not entirely sure why. Perhaps it is simply because she is bored. Her home holds no new secrets for her to discover. She has found them all already. And perhaps it is because she knows there is something to be found here. Perhaps a small thought had simply said ‘today’. And so she had come. And perhaps it is for none of those reasons at all.

    She doesn’t know. Not really.
