    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

It was her first day, and technically she shouldn't have been joining. In actuality she was still new here, and her opinion wasn't really asked for... Yet. Though, it would be more rude to just stand off to the side while a kingdom meeting was held. And, after all, Kindling was officially apart of the kingdom.

Ten years later, three children later, two deceased husbands (boyfriends?) later.. She is here. The sweet smell of pine floats into her nostrils, the distant smell of familiar servants erupt in her memory. Rodrik was not longer here, but his sweet little Straia was.

Oh, how they had been such good friends.

The grey mare waivers inbetween trees, along the pathway and down the slowly descending hill to the heart of her first kingdom. No, her crown had never been here, it had been in the Valley. But for what? Osric. Why? For the sake of merging kingdoms.

What had the end result been? The Chamber, and the Valley at war. The fallen king, and the forgotten queen.

She reaches the bottom of the slope. The watering grounds, a semi-thick creek leading to an over flooding pool of water to her right. A thick brush of trees to her left, most likely leading to what she would assume is their leader.

She wonders who stepped up to the throne when Rodrik stepped down.

And it was only so long ago when..

She only recognized Osric, but that would change with time. There were few here, although Kindling had gotten the impression horses were slim picking here. Especially mares. She stared as the six stallions all gathered in discussion. Osric spoke first, but Kindling had feeling that the one they called Rodrik was heavily looked upon. She listened to them speak, hearing kingdoms names she had never heard of.

It was interesting to ask their opinions, and the others obviously had some ideas. But Kindling only knew of the Jungle, and the Tundra. Both of which had strong armies. Kindling had only heard through the grapevine of the ferocity of the women. And a little bit of female influence wouldn't do too bad for the kingdom. And, they were one of the few others vicious enough to fight, but compassionate enough to be loyal. Though, with Osric calling Jungle with Rodrik, Kindling had the impression she would be sent to the Tundra. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, she had always been better with male socializing rather than female.

"I could visit the Tundra. " Her voice contrasted against the male baritone voices ringing in the air. Her voice was more like a soft harp.

Her voice is no longer soft, it is rugged and firm. Her body is strong, scars forming all along her body. Her most prominent the scar of her rape, a thank you to Rodrik, sliding along her belly. Elite had her fun that day, saved her from birthing to a monster. Hallelujah.

And yet no one even knew that beautiful story.

And so she waits, impatiently mind you, hoping that someone will come to see what the familiar smell of Kindling is doing lurking within their home. Everyone thought she was dead.

She thought she had died too.
When she awoke, the world was on fire.

Italics are from her very first post in the chamber ☺ Just so no one gets confused.

Ha. Rodrik stepping down? That’s a hilarious thought. He would have sat on the throne forever, if the Chamber had been content to let that happen. And maybe it would have, if not for Straia, because there had been no one left but Kavi, Warship and herself after the volcano. Rodrik showed his face only briefly, but mostly he disappeared and let the kingdom fall into ruin. Literally. The trees had burned, the earth had been scorched. No one called the Chamber home except a few of them. And even Kavi stayed more for Rodrik and than the Chamber.

So Straia took the throne. Overthrew his father. Traded him to the Valley for support in the overthrow and an alliance. And look how far the kingdom had come. They were strong and thriving and Beqanna remembered their name again. Whispered it with trepidation and hate. The ravens mentioned this time and time again, knowing it pleased their master.

    And oh, it did.

Today, the ravens tell her of the gray mare by the creek. She seems familiar, they say. Not that the ravens know her. Rather, they mean she seems to know the land. Straia has gotten rather good at interpreting their broken words. Or perhaps that reality is her magic is getting better at translating raven caws. There’s only one gray mare that Straia has ever known here, other than Ana. And the ravens know her to be different, and they do not call Ana a mare.

    It couldn’t be.

But of course, it is. Straia takes a deep breath before approaching, long since tired of this feud they’ve had for too many years. She’s ready to move on, though who knows if Kindling feels the same. “Kindling,” she says, coming to a stop before the gray mare. Straia still looks like Straia, wild and beautiful, though she wears the crown of raven feathers on her head. Kindling may or may not like that one, but Straia isn’t about to change for anyone either. “It’s been quite a long time. How can I help you?”

She had yet to hear the name “Chamber” be related to evil and darkness. To her, it is still the kingdom that could, but never did. It was a kingdom that should, but most likely wouldn’t. A kingdom no stronger than her beloved Valley.

Though she wanted the Chamber to be stronger.

She wanted her original, initial home to prosper.

Our darling Kindling started here, and it was time she ended here, as well.

So what brings her to Straia’s door? Aside from pointless meandering and nosing about? A job. Our fire ex-queen has spent too long lurking amongst the shadows and watching the ponies play. She has just about had it with playing mime and now it was time to put herself to work. She was always better, after all, at working than she was leading. Leading took cautious conversations and diplomatic principles. Working just needed her body.

    Her heart.

“A job,” she states. A job preferably in the war caste however it wouldn’t shock her if she was assigned under the peace core as well. She had originally been the top of the chain in that genre, however that was many years ago.

“Don’t you think our world has been a little too quiet? I do.”

Is the Chamber the kingdom to put a damper in Beqanna’s peaceful state of mind? Or is Kindling fishing for food in a poisoned pond?

The Chamber was only just beginning, certainly. The Gates had been a small thing, but it had started something. They wanted revenge, and the Gates was preparing, looking for allies in a war against the Chamber. Straia still hasn’t decided if she’ll just return Fiasko, which would likely alleviate a lot of the tension. Not all, but enough to perhaps stop a war. And in the Gates garners enough support, Straia will have no choice. The Chamber cannot stand-alone against half of Beqanna, and the Valley is still something of a quiet ally. Though with Gallows now on the throne, that might change very quickly.

Kindling gets right to the point. There’s none of their old feud left, not even a mention of it. Instead, Kindling seeks the same thing Straia does. Chaos. Power for the Chamber. Straia grins slightly, that characteristic turn of her lips and a flick of her tail. This has not changed from her childhood, that mischievous look. “Oh, I agree. And I have plenty of jobs. Take your pick of them. We have more warriors than peace members, but I won’t force you into one or the others.”

She’d rather let her members do what they wanted.  If they wanted to fight, let them fight. If they wanted to bargain for alliances, than they could do that. She figures they are more likely to stick around, to work hard, if they enjoy what they are doing.

And then she adds, because it is one of her favorite questions, “May I ask, if you could do anything in Beqanna that you wanted to remove that quiet, what would you do?” Not that she could make any promise that it would happen, but she was always looking for ideas. Always looking to see what the Chamber wanted to do.
