    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

So long she had been sleeping, hidden in the cave for nearly a century. It was wonderful to be awake again, to feel the sun on her skin and the song of the Falls singing it’s serene song to her. A song that nobody else could hear but that had never bothered her. She knew she was special in this regard and looked on it as a blessing more than a curse. Even when it turned into a lullaby and sung her to sleep, storing her away for when it needed her, she didn’t really mind. All she ever had was the kingdom and so she gave it the entirety of her heart. Once she had fallen in love with the boy who she had been raised besides as a brother (in word alone, not blood) and it was from that love that she created a child that ended up serving the kingdom better then she ever did. But that was the reason for her existence you see. The Falls used her as it would to create what it needed, she was merely a pawn in the kingdoms never ending chess game.

It had been a shockingly pleasant surprise though to find her father standing there when she had awakened. Her tousled memories could have sworn he had died but perhaps that had just been an unpleasant dream. It must have been for he was there in the flesh, not looking the least bit ghostly. As much as she loved her kingdom and it’s people, she also needed to get reacquainted with the rest of the world. The land is covered in the sparkling powder that winter provides and she gallops through it with no restraint, enjoying the burning sensation as frost fills her lungs and the energy she expels warms her entire body. One eye of blue and the other of brown sweep the snow covered Meadow with unabashed glee. It was truly wonderful to be back. Her gait doesn’t slow, she needs to run. Her body had gone unused for so long, it stretches and bends with old familiarity. Soon she exhausts herself, not able to keep it up for long. Stamina would have to be built back up with time.

Although she is no longer in her home, the song of the Falls still meets her ears, it’s merely softer here. A whisper, white noise. Slowly she meanders through the snow, squealing softly as snow drops on her back from a heavy branch that’s collapsing under the weight. It’s a delightful noise, for she is rather like a filly instead of a grown mare as she looks on the world with unusually brightness. A woman who has just woken up with all sorts of possibilities before her. Truly the world was her oyster and she was ready to find it’s pearl.
