    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Laurelin likely would have stood there long into the night, testing the water every time he forgot whether or not it was cold the last time he had tried it. Fortunately, someone interrupts him. And it’s a wonderful interruption. The smile that brightens Laurelin’s blue eyes is completely genuine when the voice he hears is one he recognizes. It is the voice of a girl who had the misfortune of not being able to see him on their first meeting, but who had much better luck on their second. And, it would seem, on their third as well.

His smile is mostly because it is good to see Chasmata again but a little part of it is that he is glad that she can see him. And both of those reasons are a good excuse to smile, he thinks.

“I like being easy to find for my friends.” He tells her with a bright laugh that returns again at the teasing words that follow her greeting. His eyes dance, tracing the upwards movements of a few sparks from his mane as he shifts his stance so he is facing her and turning a chilly shoulder to the cold water that had been mistreating him before her arrival. Maybe, though it would take a long time to heat the water with them.”

The sparks are awfully small, after all.

His laughter fades then, but his frown is one born of concentration. “I can heat the air around me but for some reason, it doesn't work in water.” And that was the extent of Laurelin's capability to puzzle out the mystery that was his power, so his easy smile returns. He doesn't think to tell her how nice it is to see her again, though of course it is.
