    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Nowadays, Jesper sleeps curled up in as tight a ball as possible. While this position is more typical of his canine form, he finds comfort in tucking his legs and nose as close to his body as possible. It is not the first light of dawn that stirs him. No, winter on the Isle brings very short periods of light. Rather, the whistle of a whisp of wind rings in his tufted lobes. Bronze tipped ears flick ever-so-slightly, and then, the brow of a triangular fox head levels. He lifts his snout out from his dense coat and greets the stinging blasts of ash and snow, head-on. The ash-hued fox pulls himself to his paws and shakes from nose to tail in order to rid any lingering sleep from his muscles. He takes a step forward though, its progress is due to the stretch down his spine. Jesper focuses his icy-blue gaze to the horizon. There is no first light to be seen so, the day is hours off.

Up before the dawn, what is a fox to do? He decides that today is as good a day as any to venture off of the island. His furry white stockings shift into gear and he pads across the tundra with a determined step. Jesper reaches the edge of the Isle before his thoughts get too deep. He takes the icy plunge into the near-black water and begins swimming as he has done countless times before. Upon reaching Nerine's shore, he digs his paws into the gray sands, grateful they are not covered in a sheet of ice. Once he has his bearings, Jesper shakes as much water from his pelt as he can. The long hairs on the surface act to guard the dense undercoat and protect them from water's penetrating hold. He feels minimally chilled but, then again, he is well-versed in traveling this way so, his tolerance is likely higher than most.  The silver fox presses on, taking the straightest path across Nerine (since it belongs to the North, and his passage should not be a problem) to Taiga. When he reaches the land of the redwoods, the canine travels along the border of Hyaline. Taiga, too, is part of the North; however, his trajectory south of this point will cross lands that are not.

As he emerges from the shadows of the redwood forest, Jesper notes that dawn has broken. The air here feels warmer and milder. His steps become lighter as his joints and muscles are soothed by the warmth of his surroundings and exertion from his travels. The canine pads along the edge of Hyaline's border to Loess as well. It is not long before he catches sight of the familiar edge of the Forest. While this would typically be his destination, Jesper decides to head for the Meadow. Once in the shadows of the many trees, the fox brings himself to a stop. He takes a moment to shift into his equine form. The Meadow certainly offers forage for many species, foxes included, though the black steed possesses a craving for grass today.

His salmon-lined nares flare to allow the long overdue fragrance of sweet greens to take over his olfactory sense. The fox-shifter closes his eyes as he breathes it in. The long-awaited aroma fuels his craving and, he does not linger long before a rumble comes from within his barrel. The lithe-shaped stallion steps into the ankle-high grasses before dropping his whiskered muzzle into the dry blades. He snaps and pulls up a mouthful before lifting his poll to survey the scene while he chews. His light blue eyes fall upon the form of a golden lady. Her sun-kissed hue is complimented by lavender locks and lavender spots. Jesper takes her in for a moment before grabbing another mouthful. While chewing this bite, he approaches slowly. His lobes are pricked forward, and a warm smile grows upon his lips. His aquamarine gaze is soft and gentle while the height of his poll indicates interest with a subtle hint of friendly respect. The black, desert-bred male stops a respectable distance away. His last bite has been swallowed so, he may greet the lady without a mouth full of food. "Morning, Miss. My name is Jesper. My home is rather quiet so, I came here in the hopes of socializing. Do you mind some company?"

The lavender spotted girl smiled as she spotted another equine enter the meadow. She had pretended not to notice him so that he would approach her first. Once he was in view she noticed that he looked very familiar to someone she had met as a baby. She said "Morning sir. It is a pleasure meeting you Jesper. You look very familiar somehow." She let her eyes take in the male's appearance and scent. She said "My name is Makara. I wouldn't mind the company at all.
