There is an unspoken trust in their easy companionship, a bond of youth and family forming with little effort despite their rocky start. With the lands beyond Taiga in their sights, it’s easy to dream, to yearn for the wild of the vast world beyond (though undoubtedly with age it would become far less vast).
Though, as Reave peers at Cheri, it’s hard to determine if she covets that freedom as he does, or if her curiosity would prove easily satisfied in the contentment of their forested home. Even harder to determine if ambition blooms as wildly in her chest as it does his.
Time would tell, no doubt.
He grins at her question, pleased to know something she doesn’t. He is hardly the scholarly sort, but when it comes to exploration, he is rapidly becoming an expert. “Loess,” he responds, his voice confident in the way only the young could be. His bright gaze sweeps over the crooked stone formations visible in the distance. Where they stand, the trees have grown sparse, shrinking and shriveling into smaller, hardier varieties that thrive in red rock. They had left the rich loam behind them, the Taiga forest fading into clay before giving way to the drier earth of Loess.
“What do you think?” His gaze jumps back to his companion, eyes alight with vigorous intent.
This is hardly his goal destination.
Jerking his chin towards the west, he leans closer before continuing in a conspiratorial tone, “There is a hot spring on the border just over there.” His grin widens as he stares at her, gleeful challenge written across his features. “Do you want to see it?”
