    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Gryffen thinks Kreios too slow, but even the percheron hybrid can drop from a six inch rear before Gryffen can stumble away and turn his entire body around. He’s bigger than Gryffen is, not stuck in a loop of time at half-speed.

His head is still a few seconds behind (wondering how the red-eyed stallion is so quick that Kreios’ average [not slow, but perfectly average] reflexes are so poorly matched against this speed-demon from the Chamber. He has to catch up with real time quickly though, as Gryffen has recovered from his stumble and spun around to face him.

There is no space between them for an attack with any momentum, and even if there were Gryffen is already coming for him. Kreios pins his ears and immediately responds in turn, taking a single small lunge forward and snapping at Gryffen even as the other stallion’s teeth close on the right side of his neck. Half the other horse’s mouthful is likely to be Kreios thick mane, but the other is the flesh directly behind his jaw. It hurts, a sharper pain than his chest wound despite being far less serious.

The appaloosa stallion seems to be aiming for an equally painful target: Gryffen’s crest, coming in from the right. He expects hair in his mouth as well, but the crest is at least a mouthful, more than the pinched skin that Gryffen’s attack had gotten. Kreios does not expect anything fantastic, but at least he has the “bigger mouth, bigger bite” going for him. A solid bite might make Gryffen’s head less mobile at least. The adrenaline rushing through Kreios veins makes even the nip to his neck seem little more than a spider bite, but he knows that in a few hours it will ache. With the best of luck, Kreios’s bite will be hard enough bruise the rhomboid muscle and make moving the right shoulder and turning the neck rather painful.

As soon as his teeth clamp shut, be it on flesh or air, Kreios is pivoting on his hind legs, doing his best to get to at least a thirty degree angle from the other stallion, intending only to make it so that Gryffen will have to change positions to attack and therefore give Kreios more time to react.
