    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    love is a temporary madness...
As Ramiel wraps up the general meeting, Elysteria steps forward, asking that those of the peace caste who are willing to travel to other kingdoms to stay. She would like to get the assignments sorted before everyone scatters to all corners of the kingdom. As they turn their attention towards her, she smiles, the warmth of the action easily reaching her russet eyes. She does not wait once she has their attention. They all know why she wishes to speak with them.

“Thank you. As Ramiel has suggested, those of us who are participating in the Deserts’ competition should find out what we can from the other participants.”

As she says this, her gaze finds first their new king’s, then Weir’s. They are the only two she believes have agreed to participate. She pauses only briefly before she continues.

“There are several kingdoms I feel it would be beneficial to visit as well. As the Gates has recently changed hands, we should find where they stand. Talulah, if you wouldn’t mind visiting them, I would appreciate it. Additionally, I think that we should visit the Tundra and Chamber as well, since we have not heard from either of them since their change of leadership. Weir, if you would be willing to head to the Tundra, I will visit the Chamber. At this point, we should only be getting a feel for where they stand. Once we know more, we can make any decisions regarding alliances.”

Though she does not say it, she is fairly certain that if the Tundra or Chamber had wished to offer an alliance to them, they would have already done so. At this point however, she knows far too little about where they stand to judge accurately. She glances over the group, waiting for their agreement, waiting to see if any questions should arise

The general gathering rolls to an end, the roan feeling elated with energy. He had decided to pledge himself to this land, to make some roots, hopefully ones that would stick and flourish.  At the close Elysteria beckons to them, wanting to speak to those that have joined the diplomatic caste. He had turned to wander off, but instead obliges her and circles around to return. Her warm smile brightens his amber orbs as he listens in on the topic of this assembly.

First, the conversation turns to the Deserts, a competition was to be held, one he had agreed to attend. He was more than happy to take part, it would be a great opportunity to meet others, and to learn a great deal. Simply watching the other tournaments could be beneficial to the Dale, especially in their current state.

Kingdom visits. Of course, he should have guessed, should have expected the discussion to turn to such. Everyone would be given an assignment, and he was not disappointed when they were. She had suggested he take the trip to the Tundra, a herd solely made of males. Russet dial dipping in acknowledgement and acceptance, he would set out shortly. ”Of course, of course. Tundra indeed! I wonder if I might chance to sight a snowy owl, beautiful creatures.” His exuberance beamed forth with a flourish, his amber eyes alight with a new fire. Curiosity at its peak, he found it a pleasure to visit what might otherwise be a vast emptiness. One covered in white year round, whose frozen landscape offered little in the way of hospitality. Perhaps though the inhabitants might not be so cold and hard, might welcome a visitor. He could only hope.

The panic rises within her, but she tries to quell it as best she can. Because there is work to do, and also because she doesn’t want to look like a complete idiot in front of her Dalean family, she forces her nerves to still.

    It works a little.

By the time Elysteria begins to speak, she has her mind back, if not her heart. She knows there are important matters to discuss. There are alliances and kingdom visits and the usual diplomacy that means more to her now than ever, now that her son’s future is dependent on it all. She knows it all needs sorting, and she tries. She returns Ely’s smile first, because that is easy to do. It’s a small step – a manageable task – in the right direction. There’s still that seed of resentment hibernating within her chest. It sprouted the day their angel returned and she saw them together, but she’s kept it in the dark ever since, stunting its growth as best she can. It’s never been directed at the woman herself (and maybe that’s why it’s actually been worse, because Ely is so nice). But every time she looks at her, she’s reminded that they share an affection for the same man. She’s reminded that they are not alone in this, either.

Talulah’s ears swivel to catch every word that the bay mare speaks. She had been at Camrynn’s declaration of the competition over a year ago, and it seems its opening is imminent. Simply attending will be as much as she can muster in terms of activity. It has its own perks and benefits, she knows - eyeing the competition and pulling information from unwitting or overeager tongues will be all too easy. If nothing else, this Desert-tournament will give the Dale a chance to learn from the other kingdoms as well as learn where they stand in the bigger picture.

Talk soon moves towards these inter-kingdom relationships. She nods, her head shimmering with the motion in the spring light, when she receives her place of visit. Although the metal-mare has never been to the Gates, she’s always wanted to go. She has family originating there, their blood settled and stagnant beneath the overwhelming Dale blood coursing through her veins. She doesn’t know much about the light kingdom, only that they are historically friendly and quiet (quieter than the mountain kingdom, even). It will be good to find out where they stand. If they’ve overcome the stillness that has plagued Beqanna, they might even become a promising ally.

“The Jungle holds our only true alliance.” Her voice finds purchase as she pushes her fears further away. “Will Joscelin be able to find out who their allies are? Perhaps if we’re agreeable to their allies, we should base our decisions on that?” She looks searchingly at Elysteria, wondering what the mare thinks on the matter. It would mean combining into a greater alliance, a three or four-way alliance with a strong foundation of Dale and Amazon. She has no way of knowing who the Jungle is allied with, but Talulah thinks it might be wise of them to find out.
