    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

how come I never got used to the feeling of sleeping in a cage?
too long driving, too damn hungry; a tied-up hound but nothing stays

Her skin is cold without him pressed against her. When she looks to her right, there are only trees enticing her into their wiry grasp. Branches reach out toward her frosted skin, luring her because they hold in their depths what – whom – she truly desires. Valdis breathes in his familiar scent and her memories are suddenly ablaze with a fiery passion.

What took years to develop took only weeks to destroy.
But she has always refused to accept that it was truly over.

The removal of his crown was only the beginning, but then she was stolen away and everything crumbled more. Confusion tainted her mind and added hesitation to her step where it hadn’t existed prior. Day after day, week after week, Valdis was – is – conflicted, but her adventurous and greedy heart has always yearned for him.

His embrace has always been her sanctuary, his ominous voice her lullaby. Although fear initially pulled them together, it has since been replaced by adoration. Love comes to mind briefly, but they are both reluctant to ever utilize the word in conversation. It was the unraveling of their parents; they would be fools to fall into the same trap… right?

Valdis does not fight her needs and wants. Like ice, she melts in the face of her impulses and finds him shrouded in the forest’s shadows. A grin chases away the concentration that led her to him once their eyes level on one another. ”Sinner,” she whispers into the moonlight as her legs continue to bring them closer until her face neatly presses into the curve of his sloping shoulder, ”My Sinner.” Always hers. Even when Mary claimed him and coupled with him numerously, Valdis held onto the wavering thread of hope that he would return to her. Their children is the embodiment of their passionate desires. ”I want you to hold me,” to love me, she thinks but never says aloud.

    there is but one rule
    hunt or be hunted
    The hunt.

It had consumed every part of him. Controlling his every mind’s thought and heart’s desire. A voice whispering and haunting him to do only commit acts of chaos and massacre.

He let himself go. Allowing the hunt to consume him. Forgetting every experience and thought of every being part of the modern world. It was unnatural for him. Following the rules of a society that was bounded by boundaries. He was not bounded by the rules of a modern world, but what nature had made him and intended for him.

A monster is what nature had made him.

A killer is what nature had intended for him.

The hound only knows these. A hungry that is never fully satisfied, just as his hungry for the crown was never satisfied. He reached to far, but he did not entirely lose it all.

He found himself in a place where he truly belongs. The simplicity of nature. The prey and hunter.

The black wolf remembers her. A scent of sweetness and hunger. It was a dangerous game—the pendulum of their love and desire constantly swinging back and forth. Their pendulum of doom.

She comes and finds him in the shadows. Exposing herself to a monster, like a meal on a silver platter, that hungers for nothing but blood and bone. Naturally, his hunger tells him to consume her. To lavish every part of her body, to taste the sweetness of her scent on his tongue.

    But he does not.

His heart knows more than not to.

A fickle thing his heart is.

She was and still is his weakness—his downfall to all.

“Valdis,” he coos softly in the dark of the night. The moonlight lights her up, exposing the finer parts of her physique he loved most. The curves and crevices he is so familiar with—their children an example of their desire for each other.

The black hound steps into moonlight, shifting into his bay equine form (a rare body he wears nowadays). She comes closer, falling into the curve of his shoulder. Without thought, he pulls her in. Drawn by the scent that clings heavily on her—the scent of her he missed so much. “I will always hold you no matter what,” he whispers softly in return.
