    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Back to the playground, but this time Tamlin drifted away from his siblings. Not that he didn’t love spending time with them – of course he did! – but, well, at a year old he was starting to wondering what it was like to explore the world outside of his family. His parents wouldn’t let him explore too far just yet, but he could at least check out the playground on his own. He was still enough of a foal that he still found this place interesting. Another season might pass and he would be “so over it” but, for now, the allure of hanging out with others his own age (and maybe even younger) was strong.

It was early in the day still – plenty of time to play before he was collected again, before he turned into a skeleton at night and got a little spooky (but super cool).

There were some vague rules in place about not staying out after dark but the older that he and his three siblings got, the more he suspected they were going to get away with. There were four of them, after all. That’s a lot to keep an eye on at once.

His not-quite-ready-for-flight wings were folded at his sides as he trotted into the playground, his brilliant chestnut coat starting to show flecks of grey on his face. Soon enough, he imagined, he’d be looking more like his dad.

Golden eyes looked about but there didn’t appear to be anyone else around at the moment, so he decided he may as well just wander until he did find someone. Already he was regretting coming here alone – at least if one of his siblings was with him he wouldn’t be so bored!

Loire loved everything and all things about the world already. What was there not to love? She lived on a beautiful tropical island and had a loving family. Well, despite Aeolus, her older brother. She didn’t particularly always liked how Aeolus would scare her by camouflaging himself or played some other sort of tricks on her. However, there was some perks of having an older brother despite him being annoying most of the time.

If it weren’t for Aeolus, her mother wouldn’t have let her leave the island to go to the playground. Loire couldn’t stop asking to go on the mainland. It probably didn’t help that Aeolus kept bringing up being at the playground and meeting all sorts of friends. She wanted to meet friends too!

She didn’t mind having Aeolus oversee taking her to the playground. At least she thought of it as a punishment from her mother to Aeolus for always teasing her about it. “Who knew you’d be the best babysitter!” She teased him along the way and he simply rolled his eyes. Aeolus hated being stuck with babysitting her, which she took well advantage of.

When Aeolus told her the playground was just past the treeline from the forest, Loire quickly bolted forward without hesitation. “Thanks for bringing me!” Her voice trails off behind her. Aeolus quickly chased after his younger sister, but she quickly lost him in the mass of grouped trees together. She knew quiet well her mother wouldn’t be pleased since she told her strictly that Aeolus was always meant to be with her. Sorry mom, she thinks for a brief moment knowing well enough Aeolus would only hassle her the entire time.

Pushing through the treeline, Loire jumps forward at full speed. The scenery unfolds before her and she quickly comes to a halt. Her jaw opens in awe and her golden eyes widen with excitement. She glances from one place to the next, noticing the many widely spaced trees, low logs, and ponds. There are plenty of other foals playing (actually having a good time by the laughter she hears from them).

Loire rears up on her long hindlegs and letting out a joyous whicker. She was far too excited to settle in one place for now. The light gold champagne filly lunges forward and moves on her long legs as quickly as she can without falling on her fact first. At least her balance was more mastered than the first day she first learned to use her legs. That had been an absolute nightmare!

She followed along a random path in the playground. It didn’t matter where Loire went, she was already lost in the wonder of the playground that it brought to all the foals that have ever come here. The pristine and gold filly crossed through a thicket, leaped over a log, and looked at a pound before slowing down. Loire quickly took a deep breath realizing how exhausted she already had been. She didn’t even realize how much she had worn herself out.

Taking another deep breath, her golden gaze continued to glance around the playground. Instantly she spotted the winged colt. He looked much older (maybe around the same age as her bother, she assumed) but that didn’t stop her from approaching him. “Hey there!” Loire calls out to him in the distance as she finds herself quickly running to him. “I’m Loire! What’s your name?” Her words are quickly spilled out, but she was eager to make friends today (maybe even brag to Aeolus about making her own friends instead of only him being her friend right now).

Luckily, Tamlin isn’t left on his own for very long – he actually almost sighs with relief when he realizes there’s a filly coming towards him. His first venture into solitude was a fantastic failure and he is incredibly happy to put that unfortunate experiment behind him and move forwards.

He’s not a big fan of these whole “thought” things that he can hear in his head in the silence when there aren’t three siblings demanding attention. So he’s even more happy to see this new face and for the girl to introduce herself because that means he doesn’t have to really do any thinking – he can just respond and interact and all of his favourite things.

“Hi Loire!” His warm brown eyes brighten up immediately and he turns to face the filly. “I’m Tam.” Maybe he was supposed to say something like ‘nice to meet you’ but he was pretty sure it went unsaid.

“You’re a lot smaller than any other foal I’ve ever met.” The line is delivered a little bluntly, but there’s no harshness to it at all. It was just a statement of fact. A statement he probably could and should have kept to himself but that was always a difficult distinction for the chestnut colt to make.

He saved himself, hopefully and unconsciously, by continuing to talk and pondering out loud. “I bet that means you’re super fast though! ‘Cause you’re all light and stuff, right?”

It's about now that some of that "thinking" that Tamlin so actively avoids might come in handy.

There is delight dancing on every corner of her pristine face as she gazes at the grey colt. Her golden gaze sparkles with eagerness as hundreds of different thoughts erupt from every possible corner of her mind. Loire had a lot she wanted to say and do, but she knew she couldn’t make any friends if she didn’t let them speak and see if they wanted to even be her friend in the first place.

But it seemed the winged colt was eager to be in her presence too as she meets his bright brown gaze with her own. Loire’s smile widens even further. If her smile could grow anymore, it would be almost three times the size it was now.

She’s about to say something along the lines of its nice to meet you too when he says his name is Tam; however, the next line furrows her brow and she scoffs softly at his statement. Loire wasn’t too big on the idea of being called small. She already got it enough from her older brother.

Part of her almost decided to turn herself around without a word and find someone who would at least give her some sort of decent conversation without mocking her size. It’s not her fault she was small! But Tam is quick to turn the table.

Loire smiles at @[Tamlin] smugly. “Nice save there, Tam!” She then giggles softly and her warm smile from previously returns to her light-colored lips. “You have a good eye. I am pretty fast! Perhaps the fastest horse you’ll ever meet.” She might be over exaggerating, but Loire wouldn’t say a word about that just now.

“Are you super fast too?” She asks glancing to overlook his greying body. The windwalker considers his wings for a moment. “Can you fly too?!” Her voice pipes up a note or two higher than before.
