As usual, the mother-to-be has been spending her time hidden away in the depths of the forest, quietly feeding on fish and making sure she was safe and away from all the commotion surrounding Beqanna.
The mare begins breathing heavily as she positions herself against a large oak tree, her stomach moving violently as she slides down, slamming against the floor as her legs begin to tremble. Usually, the mare would have already positioned herself to give birth, knowing when it was time, though this time around things felt a little different.
The black mare lays on her side, a few moments of silence passing before the contractions begin, a pain surging through her stomach as she starts to give birth.
After a few hours of moving around on the ground restlessly, the mare finally feels a moment relaxation as her first foal emerges, her body rising to meet the filly, though before she can even glance at the foal, the mare falls back down to the ground, her stomach still in pain as she begins to contract again.
After another hour or two the mare finally manages to lift her body, looking behind her to see not one, but two healthy foals, her expression a little surprised to see twins, especially when one of them looks a little like a mammoth.
Cael rises to her feet with a smile, turning to greet her children, her muzzle brushing against their soft hide.
The black mare looks toward the filly, studying her forming coat "You dear, shall be named Sobriety" she says softly, nudging the small filly toward her side as she looks toward the colt, this time looking over his coat which appears to be a lot more furry than usual "And you will be called Intoxication" she says with a smile, laying down next to them.

QOTY
"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Wet.
Or rather, the difference between wet and dry, is what she first senses. The winter cold out there is different from what she knows of before, of the warmth and the wetness (she now knows the difference), of the constant growing, sharing space with a much too large sibling. Free. But not really - she feels the ties to her twin, already misses him, and picks up the scent of her mother - that’s it, that’s home; her family. When her mother distances herself to give birth to her twin, Sobriety already takes in the rest of her world. It’s winter still - as twins, and her brother being huge although she doesn’t yet know of such things, they are early. But cold isn’t something that the little girl is bothered with. Her silvery mane glitter with a shimmer similar to her father’s spots, metallic, and she shares his tiny snowflakes as well. The world is an array of two-layered vision; when she blinks she sees color, sees it pretty far - but other times she sees blues and when she turns to her family, they’re orange and red. When she looks again, her mother is just black, with white dots, and her brother is reddish brown only in the middle of his body, an effect due to roaning of his normally bay color. The black points are grey-ish, as are his mane. The dots are cute - she wonders if she has dots as well, but a quick scan of herself doesn’t reveal any. But her tail is much more shiny than his mane, so she settles for that. The chocolate colored filly decides that she wants to meet her family - by sheer determination, she tries to stand just as her mother is still busy cleaning her twin brother. @[Caelestra] I’ll make her account asap and then switch post author.
Legs? No, sticks. Weird sticks with no purpose - but then her mother stands and the girl knows that the purpose is to run, to be even free-er than she felt just before. She’s not cold, but she is hungry, and the filly takes interest in everything that seems edible at the moment.
A grass stalk - no, yuck. Maybe the dirt? Nope. She needs to stand to eat then, and wobbles just like her twin. As both foals come to their supposed height, she notices his size difference, but shrugs it off as normal. Instead, the silver-maned girl suckles on his ear, but decided that that is not food either. Finally she moves to her mother, and there she is guided quickly to the milk. She forgets her distaste for wetness, and drinks. @[Intoxication] |
