    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Brunhilde had just run off to return to Hyaline, offering the secrets of the East she eavesdrops on. In a rare calm moment, Litotes finds himself feeling grateful that his captivity in Loess has not completely ruined his relationship with his daughter. Perhaps allowing her to run between the lands so casually is poor parenting, but the cremello is young and misses his family. Besides, he will be crushed if he loses both his child and Kensa.

Instead of processing his actions toward Kensa - and his rapidly growing infidelity - the stallion represses the shame and fear that wells in the back of his throat. One day he will explode; whether it be a calculated action or another loved one in pain, he will lose himself.

Before he can return to his lion, the cremello spots a familiar palomino figure. Surprise chases away the need to transform - surprise and delight.

“Dawn!” he cries, rushing to her side. He drags her into an embrace if she will have it. There is a certain comfort in seeing someone from his youth that has no ties to who he is - that emotion is conveyed in his hug.

“You look beautiful,” he murmurs. “And perhaps a bit happier than you were when we met?” the tease is a gentle and earnest prodding into how she is, considering they have not had a chance to chat since their diplomatic visit.

everything we are, it just went away
with a slide of the tongue and a sour taste

She’s been meaning to visit her family for some time now – she hasn’t seen any of them since she visited with Cress at the Resort, and that feels like so long ago – but she just hasn’t quite gotten around to it. Moping around in her own sadness and visiting foreign kingdoms have taken up so much of her time lately... granted, she’s done a lot better with the former lately, and visiting other kingdoms and meeting their leaders has been so much fun! The only kingdom so far that she hasn’t visited is Loess, which is, ironically, where all of her family is located.

Barely one golden hoof has crossed the border before she hears her name called, and she looks up to see Litotes rushing to her side. A satisfied sound echoes at the back of her throat and she smiles broadly as she melts into his embrace, remembering their gentle conversation on the beach that seems so long ago now. He has been here for so long now that the scent of Hyaline has faded from his coat, while the colliding flavors of Loess dance along his withers. It is almost a pleasant aroma, though he is losing semblance to the colt he was – no longer the Primarch of Hyaline, or defender of the East. Briefly, she wonders what will happen to him once his capitivity is up.

He calls her beautiful then, and all thoughts stop in their tracks as she pulls away from him, suddenly shy. Sunny had never called me beautiful. Sure, she’s grown and filled out since then, finally starting to grow into her legs and her curves, but to be called beautiful? He asks after her wellness but her throat is so dry and her tongue is so heavy that she cannot speak.

Knowing that he will be wanting a response she meets his eyes, trying in vain to blink away the tears there. “I’ve been... alright,” she admits, not wanting to make her crying a normal occurrence in their talks. “To say I’ve been great would be a vast overstatement, but you needn’t worry. Every day is a little easier.” Wanting to deflect the conversation away from herself, she nudges him playfully on the shoulder.

“And you? You don’t seem to be fairing too poorly, for a prisoner.”

oh, it's gonna be a long night
