    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    You are My Sunshine [Amorette]
    #1

Just when he thought all was lost, she came into sight.  There, soaking wet and tucked to his new-found sisters breast, he had spotted a dark spot along the horizon.  The conversation between Kolera and Levi disinterested him.  Even though his livelihood hung in the balance, he paid no mind.  Blue eyes remaining focused of the growing dark form.  With each second passed brought her another step closer and soon he could see her face.

With a customary jolt of excitement for anyone who has spotted an old friend(though they had just met and neither were old).  He leaps forward without thinking his sudden exit may cause his sister concern.  The once wobbly limbs of the colt were strengthening and his canter to her is rather smooth.  He was gaining slight control over the parachutes at his side and he finds that folding them tightly to his sides fairs better than leaving them wide open to catch a draft.  An excited twist of his small head had his forelimbs rising in sequence.  "Amorette!" He calls out to her.

Slowing to greet her, he reaches his muzzle for her own.  Having nearly forgotten he is soaked from his near death experience.  That water was unlike the small brook she had brought him to.  Where he had splashed confidently in his own reflection.  This stream was frigid, deep, and much to large to jump across.  His ears fall in sudden sadness in realization that his mother had left him and everyone else was angry.  Faint shouts were heard from where Kolera stood.  His face turns upward to look at the dark mare, concern spread across his young profile. "What's wrong? Why's everyone mad Amorette?" His harlequin face turns to view the pair a ways off.  Mismatched ears swiveling to catch what they were saying but he was too far away.

His wings shift slightly as he ambles over to her.  Crossing under her neck to lean into her chest.  The warm sunlight beginning to dry his blotchy fluff.  The thing he had been so afraid of just a few days ago was now a welcomed sight.

Warrick had ordered Levi to escort Karaugh, Kryptic and his sister out. Immediately Karaugh had called her son away, in a rather demanding way, and not at all as relieved she should be to be reunited with him. Her heart aches for the boy, missing his presence already. Never before had she thought of children, but Krytpic had been enclosed in her heart right away.

So it probably  is no wonder that she hadn’t been able to not follow them once the band of gathered horses had all gone their own way. Only till the border, or so she told herself. And only to keep an eye on the piebald colt from afar. He now had to bond with his mother and sister, her being there wouldn’t do any good.

She fails at both of the two, and Amorette can’t really get herself to care. His loud call is answered with a whinny. But it is the sight of his soaked form that pushes her to meet him half way. ”Kryptic” she murmurs softly as she lowers her head so he can easily touch her nose. Soon her muzzle trails his body all over, checking him to see if he is hurt, and then attempting to lick him dry, like a mother would do to dry her newborn foal.

The shouting that almost startle Kryptic, make her look up. The conversation of Levi and Krypic’s sister, who apparently knew Levi pretty well, is hard to miss or ignore. She tried to, simply because it wasn’t her business, but it was hard to forget the summary of their ‘story’. Levi fucked her mom. And they had both liked it, even though Karaugh had claimed different before.

Amorette really didn’t know how to feel about it. Lucky Kryptic offers her a distraction. Automatically her head dips so she can wrap her neck around his form, pulling him closer against his chest as her lips gently groom his crest. ”I don’t know, little one, I don’t know..” There is nothing else she can tell him. When her eyes search his again, the dark woman has some difficulty to hide her worry. ”Don’t think about it, they aren’t mad at you.”

She wants to tell him she wasn’t mad, but that would be a lie. Because she is mad. Furious with Karaugh, for whatever she had let happen that soaked Kryptic and send him in such distressed state, and upset for what she learned about Levi, even though she already knew it deep down. But somehow the pleasure and desire made it even more wrong than the brute act of rape and punishment.

There was confusion, then anger.  Lots of anger.  Before it then sizzles into something else.  She's not all too sure what is was, understanding maybe.  Perhaps that is why she could never stay pissed at him.

With a final push, she moves on.  Leaving him to his vices.  Whatever they were.  After all that had transpired, she was sure he had more pressing matters.  She also had things to figure out that were more important than their personal strife.  There would be plenty of time to talk, later.

Her approach is casual as sienna eyes view the dark mare.  Their was a natural instinct present in the way she was caressing the boy.  Reassuringly tucking him to her charcoal frame.  An envious emotion swirled in her mind as she neared.  Now that her mother had left him behind, she is quick to question her skills at caring for a child.  Uncertainty plagues her but she is quick to conceal it with a smile.  A greeting casted forwards from her parted lips, "Hello.  I don't believe we have formally met.  I'm Kolera." Dipping her curved face to the mare.  Her eyes fall to the spotted child, "He seems rather fond of you." The mask was slowly fading as her smile flattens, "Amorette is it?" Remembering his calling of her name as he fled from her side.  Ebony ears flick to the sides, her distress apparent now.

Amorette tries her best to comfort the piebald colt. Her own childhood had been carefree, like it should be. Her mother had been around and she remembers being soothed by the grey mare, but that didn’t make it any easier to comfort a child herself. Especially when there wasn’t really anything he could do.

She alters between nuzzling his crest and murmuring sweet nothings, mostly about how he should ignore what they are saying. Occasionally she glances in Levi’s direction, who is engrossed in his heated conversation with Kryptic’s sister. The second last time she glances in his direction he nods at her. The next time she looks up all she can see is his broad brown back. He was leaving? Many questions swirl in her head, but worst of all are her own thoughts. Her mind filling in the gasps in the story, one crazier than the other. It didn’t sooth her heartache and confusion at all either.

She is not given the chance to ponder over it, as she suddenly finds herself face to face with Kryptic’s bay sister. A light nod of her head, but no smile. Well, until her gaze shifts to Kryptic, Amore finds herself unable not to look at him fondly. ”I wish I could say that it’s nice to meet you, Kolera, but I wish the circumstances had been different.”

The situation is most awkward, but Amorette knows that meeting Kolera would have been awkward either way. After all, she’d bonded more with Kryptic than his sister. Overhearing the heated discussion she had had with Levi didn’t help much either. But when the dark woman looks up to meet Kolera’s gaze, she realises that it was not the time to ponder over it. ”I don’t know how or when, but everything will be alright..” she offers the distressed mare softly, her head dropping a little. Amore wants to reach out, to offer the sister the same comfort she’s giving the brother, but Kolera is a grown woman, not a young boy.

    Information
Her two-toned face gives a shake at the end of the mares first statement.  There was a kindness in her eyes as a gentle smile creases her ebony lips, "No worries, Amorette.  What happened is in the past.  So let's start fresh.  What do ya say?" Her ears perk forwards as the dark mare answers with assurance that everything will be alright.  She is quick to voice her agreement, "Yes it will!"

Lowering her eyes to the pied colt that rest lightly against Amore's chest, she wonders what they should do next.  The colt having plummeted into the frigid waters was nearly dried from the mare tending to him.  Her expression then turns to semi concern, eyes rising to meet the mares again, "Do you think Warrick will allow him to stay?  I mean, he did banish both of them.  Maybe we should go find Warrick and ask." Her tone was hopeful but she hadn't the slightest clue of where the Overseer would be found.  "Do you know where we might find him?!" Hoping the resident of the kingdom could shed light on the subject.

If he would not allow the child to stay then she would have no choice but to leave Tephra behind once again.  How she would get the colt across was an entirely different problem that she would need to address if indeed they must leave.  She hoped, more for the boys sake, that they were both allowed clemency.

@[Amorette] tagging @[Warrick] as well so he knows what we are talking about XD

She had never been the type to judge others for the deeds of their ancestors. In this case, the mother. Amorette had never seen Kryptic in the same light of his mother, and neither does she see Kolera as such. Perhaps a bit naïve, but unless proven otherwise, the dark woman sees and believes in the good of others. ”I’d like that” is thus her honest answer, together with a tentative smile and a gentle nod of her head before she dips her head to gently lip at Kryptic’s crest. Things would be better from now on, for him at least, of that Amorette is sure. Nothing bad would happen to him, if it was up to her at least.

Kolera’s question make her look up, a confused frown painting her features. ”He will.” Of that Amorette is sure. Tephra is a sanctuary and if Amore is right, both Kolera and Kryptic are quite lost and in need of a place to call home. A good place, a safe place. And that’s exactly what Tephra is. But she does understand that Kolera would want to hear it from the bay and navy king herself. ”I have an idea” she confirms, nodding her head.

From there her attention moves to the pied colt again, touching his back with affection. ”Come, little one, we’re going home” she murmurs against his skin. Amorette is reluctant to pull back from him, but if they were to find Warrick, she would have to. She hopes her smile is encouraging and soothing. He has had enough hardship for one day.

Her gaze find’s Kolera’s again and she offers the other mare a smile. It’s different from the ones she shows Kryptic, but not less genuine by any mean. ”I think he is at the base of the volcano” she tells the bay mare. Only then her gaze moves to the volcano itself, which called her back home like a beacon. One last brush of her muzzle down Kryptic’s crest and she takes off, though not without making sure he is staying at her side where she can make sure he’s safe and unharmed.

like the sun swallowed up by the earth
With Karaugh gone and the return of his wandering lover, Warrick’s mind is at ease. Longclaw’s capabilities (and cutthroat attitude) left him little to worry about when it came to Tephra’s army (and he is sure Levi is somewhere in the mix, appropriately so) and any chance of attack from an outside kingdom would be met with full force of the fire-wielding stallions. He does not mind their intimidating personas, and rests easy knowing they are willing to protect Tephra and its residents at all costs. He also hopes with the captivity of Karaugh and the realization of his ferocity in the midst of those who do not respect Tephra, that strangers will think twice before stepping up to challenge him or his kingdom.

Amorette is correct - he warms himself beneath the vast behemoth of the volcano that rises from the ground, its heat radiating from the depths of its lava-filled chasms. Despite the humidity and sweltering temperature of the air around him, he is comforted by its pulsating warmth, knowing that is hearth remains his resting place and harbor when his mind is too full of kingdom duties. The afternoon sun shines down upon the broad auburn of his back, his wings loosely hanging at his sides. It is at this moment, Amorette appears.

To his knowledge, Kolera and Kryptic have left with their mother. The Overseer had hoped Kolera would come to find him, but he figured the situation had been too difficult for her to remain in Tephra - Levi’s participation seems to have deterred her (and he wonders of Amorette, as well, as she strides forward to meet him) and he wouldn’t be surprised if he would not see the young woman again any time soon.

“Amorette!” His voice is light as his wings pull together and tuck carefully into his barrel, bobbing his head gently at her arrival. “Fancy meeting you here again,” he tells her with a chuckle, remembering their last time they spent together near the volcano. He can still feel the ferocity of the lava against his flesh, and the immense pain yet relieving feeling of her magic working on his skin. He had about to continue his conversation, ask her how she has been, but not a few seconds later, he realizes she is not alone.

He cannot hide the surprise etched on his face when Kolera and the young colt arrive with her, his brows rising to give way to a slack-jawed look of shock. “Kolera?” he questions, tossing his head and bringing his chin to his chest. The child he was not worried about (not yet, anyway) and thus his eyes to not trail to the colt, and instead his ears flick back apprehensively. Is Karaugh around the corner? He isn’t sure if he should be happy to see Kolera, or if anger would threaten to spill over as it begins to bubble in his chest. “Kolera.” He repeats again, this time sternly and with a seriousness that leaves all joy and light-heartedness from his features. It is the same voice and look that crossed his face when Karaugh had been released - it is the crown that brings out this side in him, it is an Overseer that they are standing before, no longer is he only Warrick. “This better be all who is in your company this afternoon, Amorette.” He speaks to the smoky mare, but his crystaled eyes never stray from Kolera, or the space behind her where he hopes Karaugh does not appear. His banishment did not extend to Kolera (or to the child), but there is no predicting where the buckskin woman would come from, or if she’d come searching for her children.

Pretending this is a few days after Karaugh's release and after Warrick/Amore's trek up the volcano <3

The kind words of the dark mare are a breath of fresh air.  Everything lately has been so stale that kindness was a welcomed change.  Her muzzle tucks into her breast as her eyes find the colt enjoying Amore's affections.  A smile finds her lips at Kryptics immediate bond with the mare.  She couldn't be jealous, fore it wasn't in her nature.

When Amorette motions to the volcano and states that Warrick could possibly reside there, she simply nods her head.  "I'll follow your lead," falling into stride slightly behind the woman and child.  Kryptic happily pranced beside her.  Feeling more sure of himself with each step.  The pied colts wings remained folded at his sides but slightly overlapped atop his spine.  There was so much wingspan for such a small child.  It nearly consumed his entire sides and rear end.  She giggles when he attempts a half rear followed by a springy leap.  When all four hooves ground again he is right at the mares shoulder.  Nuzzling her side, before prancing off again.  Content on bringing up the rear, she enjoys watching the colt.

As they near the volcano, her eyes lift to view it's puffing brim.  It isn't the first time she's been at the base of a mountain looking up but she hasn't grown used to the sight either.  Before finding her mother here she had never really been this close up with the land structure.  Always just barely making it past the border in her many ventures here.

She angles her head to view the sight but her attention is diverted when she hears an excited voice call to Amorette.  It is a familiar tone, so her view shifts to find the navy trimmed stallion.  His cheerful demeanor turning sour as he now sees her and Kryptic.  When his voice deepens Kryptic all but vanishes behind the mares.  Resting his muzzle at Amore's gaskin.

Stepping forward at her name and a question directed to Amore.  A flicker of her ears matching that of the stallions.  Her tone is neither light nor bitter, "If you are wondering where my mother is, she is gone.  Returned to whatever hell she came from I assume." How ironic that is just where Karaugh has gone... Sienna eyes that had been focused on the edges of the stallions face soften in regret as they fall to the ground, "I'm sorry I doubted you Warrick.  Even though what may have happened in those caves wasn't right, I presume they weren't wrong either." Her eyes rise to meet his again,  "Nevertheless we have a different issue at hand.  My mother has abandoned Kryptic here and he can neither fly across nor swim the channel.  If I am allowed refuge in Tephra might he also be allowed refuge as well?" She knows Warrick to be wise as well as kind, but if he is to fear that her mother would return to find the child than their exit may be warranted.

@[Amorette]  that timeline works for me.  I still feel Kryptic is more like 3 months old versus a yearling lol.  After this thread we can fast forward a bit but I still feel he'll be small for his age.  With his self-shrinking trait not mastered it'll just affect his stature until he knows about it

It is impossible to not be endeared by the colt’s playful antics. Amorette is glad to see that he is sturdier now, muscles are finally growing on his tiny body and although the wings are still too big for his form, he no longer seems troubled by them. His happiness is contagious and puts a smile on her face. Something simple like this makes the trek to the volcano so much better.

She is not surprised to find Warrick exactly where she’d thought he’d be. ”It’s good to see you too, Warrick. Though it shouldn’t come to a surprise to neither of us that we’re found near the volcano.” It surely wasn’t. Amorette had learned that the navy king as much loved the volcano as much as she does. As always she reaches out to offer him her dark muzzle, a simple yet familiar way of greeting one another.

His reaction surprises her, causing her to jerk back her head sharply. She doesn’t think he’s a threat to any of them, Warrick wasn’t like that, but neither does she like the almost hostile reaction the pair of siblings receive. Her ears flick back as his accusation reaches them, dark eyes narrowing ever so slightly as she looks at him. Did he really think she would bring that horrible woman back into Tephra? Amore has been more than glad to see the buckskin witch go, there was no way she would happily allow Karaugh back. ”I have no business with that woman.” Her voice is hard and cold, but there is a sense of hurt too. Was this the reach of his trust?

Before Amorette can say more, Kolera beats her to it. With a loud snort the dark woman turns to the colt that sought to hide behind her, pulling him against her chest with loving care. ”It’s okay, little one” she murmurs against his crest. He doesn’t need to hear Kolera’s words, better for now was him to be oblivious to the truth until he’s old enough to fully understand it.

It doesn’t mean she isn’t listening to the conversation happening between Warrick and Kolera herself. Her ears never stop swirling in the direction of whoever of the two is speaking. She watches them out of the corner or her eye too, but Amore attempts to hide her feelings from Kryptic’s gaze. No need to trouble the pied colt with those. As she listens the fire healer learns that Kolera is much more of a diplomat that herself. Perhaps because her friend’s words stung, perhaps because she’s too emotionally wound up in the matter, but nonetheless Amorette is glad that Kolera manages to speak on her own and Kryptic’s behalf.

like the sun swallowed up by the earth
Kolera is quick to step forward and reassure him (as if she knew exactly where his resentment was stemming from, and how to quell it) that she and Kryptic were the only ones that remained, while Karaugh’s presence is now merely a stale scent on the breeze. Her tone matches his, meeting him with a gaze that is steady and molten - she is strong, she had been ever since he met her as a young filly, and he is not surprised to see that strength before him now. She does not quiver in his presence, nor does she shy away from the sharp angles that harden the auburn lines of his face. She meets him head on, determined and resilient. It is for that reason he hopes that she has come to find him to tell him that she will stay amongst Tephra’s ranks, and blossom under his care instead of her mother’s.

But he does not voice this - not yet - and lets the woman have her say. Her apology is not surprising, but he is not expecting it. She hadn’t needed to give him an explanation. The situation had been delicate and dealt with poorly, and despite his intuition about Karaugh, he does not blame Kolera for her wish to see her mother. “It’s in the past,” he replies, a softening of his gaze now creating a more charming look on his features, smoothing out the ruffled feathers with a flick of the lithe bone against his body. Kolera mentions the boy - and for a moment Warrick had forgotten about him - and so he turns his gaze upon him, curled beneath the supple curve of Amorette’s neck, just as the dark woman bends to ease him with gentle whispers.

“It remains as it always has - a child will not be punished for the sins of their parent. And if she attempts to take him from us, she will find no mercy from me. He is Tephra’s, now.”

A bit more relaxed at the notion that Kolera would be staying in his country, the stallion steps forward and turns his attention to her, reaching forward to gently touch his muzzle to her own. “I am glad you decided to stay here with us, Kolera.” With me, he doesn’t add. The bay and navy stallion carries a piece of his heart for Kolera, in his eyes she is still the tiny filly he met so many years ago.
