So, Cassi was kind enough to answer my question if a horse's color is translated into a form they can shift into. For example, Castile with dragon shifting.
Then I developed more questions within 10 seconds, but I didn't want to bother her lmao.

So, Castile has limited dragon shifting. If I remember correctly, that means he can shift into a horse-sized dragon and can't breathe fire, correct? Or am I off a bit?
And, I never cashed in a birthday trait. Would I be able to just give Castile full dragon shifting instead of getting an entirely new/different birthday trait? If not, is there a way to give him full shifting abilities and not limited?

Yes, you're correct in limited dragon shifting.

For the birthday trait, you can either add wings/horn/immortality to a traited horse or pick a 1 or 2-space trait trait for an untraited horse. It can't be 'stacked' to augment current traits. The only way to get his dragon shifting bumped up to full shifting is to get permission (some kind of plot), or possibly run a quest
