    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

There was a birch tree in the field; Misra & Azar
    #1

Misra's tiny kisses are something he's never experienced before, something wonderful.  He leans against her, muzzle tracing random unseen patterns into her fur in return.  Were it up to him, he would stay in this spot forever, simply being with his beloved, but they can always resume acting like a pair of lovestruck teenagers later on, oh yes they can.  She asks him how long he's been blind, and Siberian sighs softly, though not out of any impatience with her question.  "It's been years, zvyozdochka.  But I have still been more fortunate than others, being able to take on a sturdier form better protected from unseen dangers...."  She asks that most anticipated question, asks him to take her home.  His heart skips a beat as he whickers a joyful assent, and he turns about in the scent-direction of the Taiga, setting his hooves down carefully along the familiar path.

He has to keep reminding himself to breathe the entire journey, but the Budyonny manages to make it back home without keeling over from lack of air.  Siberian knows the exact moment that they step across the border, for the misty world before his eyes lifts, bringing back grass and sunlight and beloved silvery pegasi.  He faces her, his Misra, smiling as he at last can see her for the first time in what seems like forever.  The sight of her, to his twitterpatted brain, far exceeds how his imagination had come to shape her.  True, he had seen her before his blindness had struck, but time had brought a fuller, richer perfection to the gray mare.  He explains it to her, tells Misra of how his vow to Taiga had given something back to him in return, albeit in a limited form.  Then, lest he forget the tiny filly who made up the third part of their family, he pulls his eyes away to gaze out across the forested landscape, calling out for Azar to come.  As they wait, he turns his head back towards Misra.  "Welcome home.  "
