    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

He came home to a beautiful illusion, one he'd thought was so very real. She stood at the lip of his lake, a girl he'd only recently met, only recently learned the new and strange sensation of protectiveness. Luster. A soft halo of light surrounded her, but as he neared he realized the light was her. She was transparent, unresponsive, not truly there at all. A vision sent to him from wherever in the world she was at that time.

A smile tipped his lips at the implication, that she was thinking of him even as she was so very far away and out of reach. Out of sight was not out of mind. But his amusement was short lived.

The shadow of a demon shot through his shoulder as he stood beside her, ripped viciously into her neck and she bled darkness down her body of light like black blood. He was frozen in shock, and then stiff in fury that anyone would dare to hurt an innocent girl, angelic and star-sent Luster, so violently without cause. And further rage, knowing he could do nothing about it as he glared down at the chain locking him here in his beautiful cage.

A dark and dangerous gleam entered his eyes, pulled from their depths where it often lay hidden. He tore through the land, shot through shadowed trees he could hardly see in time to dodge. More than a few scrapes rubbed his skin by the time he got there, his urgent strides able to ignore the growing weight of his leash as he sought the one thing, the one person that could calm him.

He said nothing as he slid in, launched himself at his sweet Karaugh with the fiercest need he'd ever had. The shallow waters could not soothe this, only she could. And he drank from her, crushed her seductive body to his with a groan and pulled and tugged at her special tonic that would mellow him, bring him back down from this engulfing fire. Cool him, dowse the flames.

After a time, she went limp in his arms and he sank gently to the ground with her, tearing away from her with a gasp for breath. Unconscious. The soft velvet of his nose brushed along her neck, seeking the stubborn pulse that he'd weakened with his greed. It was there, just as stubborn and strong as she was. Defiant girl. He sighed in relief and wrapped himself around her, tended and licked the wound tenderly and silently begging her to wake. He knew eventually he'd have to kill her for this damned craving controlling him, but he wasn't ready for that yet. Wasn't ready to lose her.

A soft sound snatched his attention and his head jerked up. Sharp eyes settled immediately on the little face he'd never wanted to learn of his true darkness, deep starry-purple and beautiful.

Klaudius.. he called quietly in a strained voice, dismayed that the boy would hate him now. His brows tightened in concern. She's ok, she'll wake soon, he promised by way of apology, his heart solid and heavy in his chest as he waited to see the damage he'd done between them.

Nestled together deep within the damp darkness of their cave, they shared body heat.  His feathered appendages blanketed his body, wrapping a secure sanctuary around him.  Autumn was deep upon the land giving the dampness a bitter bite.  The wind whistled in a vortex the dwelling created.  It gave him restless sleep tonight.  Pulling closer to his dam for soothing warmth he shifted slightly.  The new position was not helping and sleep was escaping him further now...

Hazel orbs unshuttered in annoyance as a frustrated snort escaped him.  He sighed as his crown still rested upon his wings.  Gaze fell upon the opening of their home.  An eerie haze crept into the domain.  Seemingly swimming like spirits in the rivers of Hades hell.  Arms outreached to grasp him and drag him into the abyss with them.  This wasn't helping...

Silently he rose as to not wake mother.  Lightly he stepped upon the stone floor, oh so lightly, passing through the fog and into the night.  Surely a midnight flight would put to rest his mind.  But first a drink...  Following the path to the creek he observed the night.  There was nar the slightest of breeze so the haze lingered thick along the ground.  Lobes twisted to hear the faintest of sounds but there was none.  The forests were quiet tonight... Too quiet.  He stepped even lighter, more nimble and cautious.  Orbs scanned but he could not see through the mess that engulfed him. He wasn't even sure he was on the right path anymore or how far he had ventured...

Without warning a crashing sound was heard.  He froze in place listening to it near.  Wide hazel stare desperately tried gripping onto any form of reality as did his mind.  Whatever it was was nearing quickly. Caw! Caw! Crown twisted to the familiar sound and what it meant.  Still frozen in place lobes searched for the barreling noise that had seemed to disappear.  A rustling was heard from up the path he had came.  Mother! Lunging forward he blindly galloped through the forests.  Dodging what brush and trees he could while barging through the rest.  The branches gripped and clawed at his brilliant purple coat and feathers.  Stumbling finally upon his home his nares inhaled deeply to catch his breath.  A scent drew inside him of familiarity.  Brow furrowed in confusion as to why he had came.  Was something wrong? The rustling had stopped before he had arrived but he hurried forward into the darkness.  Vision struggling to adjust to the dim light the cave allowed.  As it slowly focused on a dark figure wrapped around his mother he questioned his intentions, "Stillwater? What are you doing here? What happ..." His questions cut off by the stallions rough voice assuring Klaudius his mother will be fine.  His focus shifting from the stallion to his mother, lifeless in the stallions embrace. "Mother!" His soft vocals called to her.  Called her back to him.  Muzzle lowered to her cheek nudging her ever so gently.  A violet purple tear shimmered down his cheek onto hers.  She was cool to the touch but not cold... Not yet.  He shifted to her side, laying at her feet.  Wing outstretched to blanket her chilled body.  Curling into her, his head buried into her shoulder.  Her usual strength was non-existent.  He didn't question the stallion further.  At that moment he didn't care.  He cared only for his mother to return to him...
