    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    [Open] Born of the waves...
    #1
There lives had been short thus far.  A matter of moments since they had arrived upon the shores of the coastline.  Weak, hungry... Alone.  The pair were born of the same lines but quite mismatched.  The boy thinner, smaller.  Black patches scattered about his white background.  The girl, seemingly normal.  The color of the rocks lining the ocean.  Together but alone.  They had not known how they came to be here or what to do now that they were.  Strongest of the two Azazelle soon rose to her feet.  Wobbly and shaking the sand from her fuzzy coat.  Tiny head shook violently the water lodged in her ears, knocking her back upon her hunches.  She looked to the lump of bone beside her.  Nudging it to life with her fragile muzzle...

His tail flopped and flung sand about feeling a pressing upon his wither.  He lay sprawled out on the sand.  His frame looked of sickness and weakness. Spindley legs gathered sharply underneath him and he pushed upwards with more strength than expected.  His balance came quickly and quite naturally.  Tiny hooves barely left an impression in the wet sands.  Icey blue orbs looked upon his sister as if to say "What you looking at?!".  He reached for her with his muzzle gumming her hide.  A small snort escaping him.  His attention focused on the horizon.  What was seen was a deserted wasteland of sand and rock.  Looking back at his sis he motioned forward and her to follow...

At Night she Walks the Beaches...
The rolling waves to and fro was comforting.  It held a calming rythm that never ended, constant and dependable.  She had stopped to look out onto its vast beauty.  Gulls had gathered screeching excitedly for scraps of food she assumed.  She looked to the commotion they were causing and decided to investigate.  No rush to her motion, leaving slight crescent moon prints in the wet sands.  Soon to be swallowed by the next to of water...

The buzzards gathered like the scavengers they were picking apart a mangled mess the waves had brought.  She observed for some time halting a few steps off.  Nares breathed deeply the scents of ocean brine but a hint of flesh.  Equine flesh.  Head twisted about in either direction of the shoreline... Hmmm. Nothing.  Looking down to the sand she lowered her muzzle to the sands.  Tiny prints barely noticeable leaving the shoreline sands to the wasteland terrain.  She turned to walk off in the direction they pointed.  Nose to the ground like a scent hound.  The scent was fresh. Not by days been but anew.  Lobes swivelled atop her crown in curiousity.

It didn't take long for her larger stride to near the pair.  Crown raised sharply as she stopped in her tracks.  Glancing about for surely there was an adult around.  Nothing. No one was seen.  Snort fluttered from her chest catching their attention.  They were wobbling about slowly though the Colt looked to be in a rush.  The filly followed blindly like a sheep to her shepard.  She stepped closer cutting off the colts path and looked down at them with questioning tones expressed,

Where are your parents? And where do you think you are going?  It's dangerous here... alone.  She directed her questions to the Colt who was sickly looking and smaller but had a way about him.  A fight.  She smiled slightly.

He moved them with what haste they had.  Wobbling about on unsteady limbs and weak muscles.  Hadnt gone far before a noise was heard and they were so rudely stopped...
Where are your parents and where are you going?
He abruptly halted and looked up...Way up.  His sister bumped into his hind end landing her on her own.  He looked back at her then back at the woman...

Now look what you did!! He snapped in whatever tone a newborn could possibly snap in.  He turned to his sister to help her to her feet again.  Lightly brushing her off.  Suddenly without warning he felt a tingle.  He looked over himself to see what was touching him.  He found nothing.  Looking back to his sister his eyes widened.  What the... She had gotten bigger.  Or had he grow smaller... Confusion spread across his face as he then turned to the now enormous mare.  He hissed, though he sounded more like a squeak toy,

What kind of trick are you trying to pull Lady?! He puffed a tiny snort then the tingle came back and he returned to his normal size.

Towering over the duo of newborns she half expected weakness.  Compliance.  But no, the sharp words of the colt brought memories of her own past.  Her brother and the way their relationship had always been.  She had contimplated ending their short miserable existence. To maybe prove something to herself.  Her brother.  If they had been vulnerable and weak minded maybe she wouldn't have given it a second thought.  But a thought she had.  A thought that maybe there was a grander purpose for her finding them.  Them coming seemingly from no wheres.  No parents... The fight within them  sparked her interests.  Then there was a moment where the colt exhibited a trait.  She knew of traits as she had been traited herself.  That was until the fairies stripped it from her bones.  His wasn't a marvel of traits if it was simply size reduction but traits had a way of hiding also.  Her two toned orbs fell upon the filly.  Plain enough on the outside but what secrets did she hold.  A smirk curled upon her maw.

The colts stern glare upon her didn't lighten.  He waited impatiently for her to answer cause obviously he wasn't one to let things go.  Her teeth begged to naw upon his hide sharply but she resisted.  Snapping back at him,

I did nothing.  You are traited.  Her own snort echoed over his pathetic one.  She stepped to the side of the filly, lowering her profile to view her.  Questioning her,

Are you ok?  She didn't see anything wrong with her so her concern was more to save face.  An opportunity to better view her.  Still nothing immediate was seen of interest.  Looks can be deceiving though...

Azazelle rose quickly to her feet as her brother fussed over her clumbsiness.  Shaking the dirt from her stone pelt she looked to her brother. As the mare came around to examine her wellness which she soon questioned.  "Im fine really." She smiled as she turned to face the stranger.  Her previous comment not eluding Azazelles thoughts. "Is there something wrong with him? What is a trait? Does it hurt? Do I have one?..." She had a million questions apparently and her gaze shied from the mare to her brother.  Concern for his condition...

Àzazèl stood beside his sister as she turned to the other.  One step ahead of her always.  His stare this time wasn't has harsh as last.  A curiousity danced about his gaze.  "Yes, what she said.  What's a trait?" He knew it hadn't hurt, only tingled a bit.  Not knowing what it was how could he control it...
