The pace was slower than usual. He wasn't at all sure how to care for a pregnant mare. Could they even run safely? Hell, he didn't know. So they just walked, mostly, in silence. It would have felt awkward except he was too busy scanning the horizon constantly, observing faces of possible threats. His efforts had always turned up unnecessary but he found the familiarity of it soothing. He was still on edge, still unsure of what the hell he was doing.
They finally arrived, though. Without incident, of course. Nothing ever happened here. He tapped her shoulder lightly before moving away, ahead of her. He eyed some brush suspiciously, but he could smell that the child had left it. That scoundrel. His brows furrowed and he glanced around. She didn't seem to stay put when he told her to, too bold to keep still for too long.
Little warrior.. he called low to her, watching and waiting for her to show herself. It was time for her to meet Josie, her.. mother or friend or something.
The three of them already looked to be a family. Each one sleek and black and graceful. He could only imagine the one Josie carried would look much the same. He stood back and waited for Lanora to come out. Josie would be the closest thing to a mother the girl would have, most likely, if they even accepted each other.
