    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Those who have courage and faith shall never perish in misery

The thought of green meadows and colossal green trees quickly dwindled as she entered the barren, ice-cold wasteland, empty and almost as if it was forgotten, frozen in time with only the call of a few crows. The piceous lady slowly and gently slid down the icy hill, her elongated jet-black legs trailing after her cumbersome body, she lifted her head high into the air, her neck arched and creased as she flared her nostrils, picking up dull scents with each inhale, the mare began to move with haste, she did not have the time to simply stand still and allow her dark frame to slowly sink into the shimmering white powder. Anninux moved at the trot, her mind fixating on finding food or shelter, solitude was not a thing she was keen on; in fact, it bothered her.  The onyx frame raised her piston-like legs above the snow, she did not like the cold at all and made sure not to linger in it for too long, she peered into every single crack and crevasse, any sign of life that wasn't a bird would have been helpful. The young mare halted for the first time, steam rising off of her as if she had suddenly been set alight, she snorted and once more looked around, her eyes dancing around the field as she made out a few objects. She could not handle another day alone, months of distanced travelling already made her ache, but loneliness was already getting the better of her, she flattened her ears as a rugged breeze swept against her, bitterly cold snow flying up and onto her, the mare began to move again, only stopping to rest against a tree as shelter.

The mare still had no idea as to what she was doing here, solitude was almost torture but the need to integrate was spine-chilling, Anninux closed her eyes for one moment and breathed deeply, relaxing to the best of her ability in the weather conditions, almost startled to hear any noise at all, she waited silently for now, and possibly forever.

Despite the cold winter that covers the entire entity of Beqanna, he does not remain within the quiet, confined autumn kingdom. A king surely could not rule without his own inhabitants. The only place he would find able bodies is within the field itself.

He finds himself in a wasteland, empty and forgotten. The plague brought on more than just disease, but a graveyard that spread to all corners of Beqanna. Many will keep within their confined safe havens that the faeries have created for them, but the disaster does not stop him from achieving his goals. The plague was only a stepping stone for him, opening many opportunities to him.

The black hellhound moves with more grace since the crown of the autumn kingdom was placed onto his head. But he has always been a creature of habit when it came to having pride for himself. Some would call him arrogant, but he simply is who he is and with his own motives.

A rugged breeze does not send him thrilling for warmth, he embraces the cold as his hollowed eyes search the frozen wasteland that once had been filled with many new faces to Beqanna. It is no different from the other places that had once been filled with life and tranquility. However, there is someone here—a black mare—that challenges the plague itself.

The beast considers the black mare against the tree as she takes shelter. Something about her intrigues his interest, so he approaches her. His appearance may not be welcoming to those that are not familiar with the monsters of the darkness, but he does not fall away from the idea of startling the black mare. Eventually, a newcomer of Beqanna will need to understand the type of creatures that call these lands home.

“It’s quite empty today,” he states with a wolfish grin growing ear to ear. The hound cannot help but let out a soft chuckle at it. He had been a catalyst in the bringing of the plague after all. “Are you new here, or dancing with the devil on your deathbed?” Perhaps this stranger was not entirely aware of the plague that clouded over Beqanna.

Those who have courage and faith shall never perish in misery

As if the cold confines of the land were not enough, a now startling threat stood near her, her head jolted but she remained on the ground, her legs almost locked as if they had frozen over in the time being, the mare widened her eyes as she stared at the creature, her dark blue oculi lit like lamps, staring. Its grin tearing into her sense of hope and tranquillity, although the warmth it guided was pleasing at first, its words were cold "My deathbed?" she challenged, almost frightful of the response. The caliginous mare arose to her feet, locking her knees confidently this time, perhaps the creature wasn't here to harm her, or was it? She couldn't retain her confidence for long and buckled almost instantly, lowering her head in the process, she was obviously weak, almost now trembling with fear, the mare could not elevate enough confidence to look the figure in the eyes, her frail dim ears twisting and turning as they tried to find any sound, any sound at all that could comfort her in this alarming situation, she finally gathered her frame and rounded her neck, her forelock drooping in front of her white star, painted atop her black head.

The mare inhaled deeply and held her breath for a while, finally locking her eyes with the individual that stood in front of her, she wasn't dead yet and hoped to keep it that way for the time being.

Her reaction was natural to him. The hound has never been a pleasing creature to look upon. He was a frightful dark beast that only brought greater dangers.

    It was thrilling though.

Every bit of chaos and destruction he created to discourse the hope and tranquility of others was another victory for him. He had been created to do so, mended to be an obliterator to the harmony that held the world together.

Despite the obvious fright that fills her eyes, the mare challenges him with her voice. The dark beast remains within his position as the mare rises from her previous position. His hollowed gaze challenges her further, keeping a stoic expression perfectly across his hard-canine features. The beast steps forward challenging her further.

Her confidence falls away quickly. A dark, soft laugh is released through his teeth as his sinister grin grows a bit wider. “Why do you let yourself fall so easily?” He asks curiously as she locks her gaze back to him again.

The beast waits for her to answer before answering her previous question.

“You must be new then,” he confirms to himself out loud, “You are in Beqanna, and you’ve definitely come at the right time.” He steps forward again, closing the distance between him and the black mare. “A plague has taken over our land.”“However, there are more dangers than that here.” His licks his lips slowly to indicate his meaning to her.

Those who have courage and faith shall never perish in misery

This was definitely where she was going to die, it was the only thing that raced through her head as she tried to maintain her strength, she couldn't look it into the eyes, it's sinister air creeping into her mind as she shriveled backward, stumbling and falling over as she cowered in fear, she could feel it's warmth creeping up onto her frail skin, touching her head as it violently scraped away her confidence. The mare was in a terrible situation, no glimpse of hope could be found now "What do you want from me" her voice shook as she quietly spoke, almost too afraid to even stand. The mare now silently lay there, she stared out into the vast expanse of white snow, it glistened so peacefully as her mind cried out inside, how could the landscape be so serene with such creatures lurking around, the mare looked up at the creature, this time staring straight into its buldging eyes, she was neither confident nor afraid at this moment, she simply stared the creature down, it had nothing inside, like death itself.

The mare was panicked, usually, at this point, she would have run, very far away. But she simply couldn't, her frail body would not be able to carry her at this moment in time, it would only worsen her condition, it was creatures like her who would be picked off first.

Each time he moved closer to her, he could feel a sense of power growing within him. A sense of thrill he could never deny. The way a predator and prey dance together before the ending of the song comes. Where the prey finally meets death.

But this time he takes his time.

It has been too long since he has hunted. Too long since he has tasted the flesh and the crunch of bones. The power slowly consumes him now. His eyes hollowed eyes light up with life now, but a life that only brings death and destruction.

The beast laughs at the way she falls back and stumbles. Watching her strength fall away brings him delight, a sinister feeling he has not felt in such a long time. He does not deny the thrill it starts to bring, the images that fill his head with sweetness.

“I thought you could have been useful,” he answers back, his voice filled with darkness. “But I was terribly wrong. So terribly wrong.”

He laughs again, admiring her almost for the way she lays there helplessly.

The black mare then turns to look at him, staring, but it would not make him back off. It only encourages him, motivating him to play into the game. The hungry within calls him, and he can fill the hunt ready to begin.

“Come now,” he coos to her, almost as if she is a child, “Don’t make it so easy for me.”

There would be no fun if she were to remain there, helpless.

A hunt is what he wanted.

    And he would get it.

“I’m sure you have a bit of fight in you left.”

“Don’t you want a bit of fun before you go?”

His lips curl wide, and his eyes light up even more. He was getting ready for the hunt, ready to go any moment.

The mare now stared death straight in the eye, his vulgar enthusiasm sickening her as she stood, she felt she had a chance to run, she knew she was being toyed with but perhaps this could prolong her life a little longer. The mare bolted forwards with her remaining strength, tumbling and falling over as she ran, her speed slow but her hope high, the mare called out with distress as she bound forward, unsure of where she was running or where she had to go to get away from the creature, she knew it wouldn't be far behind but she kept running as fast as her weak body could carry her.

After a couple minutes she began to tire, falling over and crawling on the ground in desperation, the mare snorted loudly as her breathing became heavy, she stopped still, she couldn't move any further even if she wanted to, she turned to the creature and stared.

    there is but one rule
    hunt or be hunted
As she bolts past him, he lingers behind.

    “One...”

    “Two...”

He shouts within the silence that fills the field. The hound counted down slowly, letting the anticipation grow as she attempted her get away. She would not go far, he knew.

    “Three!”

The dark beast turns around swiftly on his paws. His hooded gaze quickly searches across the snow plastered field, quickly following the trail of hooves she leaves behind. The prints in the snow clearly show the tumbling and falling of the black mare.

She then calls out in distress. It echoes across the field. It fills his ears. It fills him with exhilaration.

“Here I come!” He yells back, answering her distress call for help.

The adrenaline fills him quickly. It sends his body shaking, his muscles tightening. He pushes off his limbs and follows the trail of the mare across the field. Each paw is grounded carefully into the snow-covered field, but lifted carefully and precisely as moves forward.

He lets out a loud howl.

Her scent fills him now. Motivating him to gain a quicker speed. Every second the scent becomes stronger, he becomes drunk with it. The hunt enlightens him, taking control of him. The intuition of the dance between predator and prey takes over him.

Sinner is gaining speed on her, getting closer to the black mare as she stumbles and falls. Her body is clearly failing her, but he enjoys watching her struggle. A part of her is determined, he can see the way she urges herself forward. There is a high hope within her, but he knows that each time she stumbles that hope will fall away.

Her breathing is becoming heavier. He can hear her inhales and exhales. “You poor, poor thing,” He shouts at her, letting her know just how close he was to her.

    Then, she stops.

    Unable to move now.

The beast slows down, prowling forward on black paws towards her. Saliva escapes the corners of his jawline, inhaling the scent of the black mare that lays only a few feet away from him now. The black mare then turns to him—facing her ending.

“Is that really all you got?” He shakes his dark, furred head at her.

“You disappoint me,” Sinner’s tone clearly shows his frustration at the attempt she has given to make a getaway. “You really do.” He shakes his head again, looking down at his paws for a moment.

Lifting his dark hooded gaze back to her, his eyes light up with passion. His eyes glow with bright red-yellowish hue now. “What will it be, love? A slow or quick death?” He would prefer a slow and painful death, but the weak mare would hardly last if anything.

His smirk grows slowly as he waits for her answer.

“Don’t keep me waiting. You know I won’t make it easy for you if I have to choose.”

    Anninux

The mare stared at the demonic creature for a second before lunging at it blindly with her teeth, after panting for a while she had quite obviously missed, she tries again, and again and one more time until she colapses onto the floor, breathing heavily as snow is displaced around her flimsy body, her nostrils flare at the sight of the creature before her, she closes her eyes for the moment, her strength so dimished that she could hardly even blink. The dark mare's life was almost coming to a halt, she could feel the breathe of the creature easing it's way closer to her smaller body, she convulsed slightly as her body responded to the shock it was being tortured with, her ears laying flat on the side of her head as steam began to rise from her hot and tired body, she was completely done for at this point.

Anninux did not know these lands harboured such horrible creatures, she was used to constant protection and shielding from the horrible atrocities of this world, but she was alone this time and petrified.
