"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura
He is a mass of pent up rage. He seethes with it. The rage and the urge for pain are a living thing inside him. Hell, more alive in him than ever. It grows; his beast. Feeding on his anger like lifeblood. Rich and dark. The beast paces, snarling and dragging claws along the edges of his mind. Driving him wild, driving him forward. The images of his Dizzy pulling away from him, over and over, are fuel to the fire inside. It is a dull roar in his veins, but it grows sharper with every pass over his memories. Fresh wounds, so fresh on his psyche. This raw and unwelcome inner pain. He seeks to drown it out in the best way he knows how. Knows just who he wants to have it out with. None other than the cause of his inner turmoil. Diz's turmoil. Perhaps the one solely responsible for it all.
But no, precious. The bone-plated bastard is not the only one who bears that weight. Zoryn had been greedy, blind with the wonders of mixing pleasure and pain until they were all lost in it. His fault, just as much as theirs, if not more so. So it lies with him to remedy this horrible mess. No longer the beautiful disaster he had proclaimed it to be. Not when the result has Dizzy pulling away from his touch. Again and again. Zoryn had done this to them. His fault. And now there was so much more at stake. Not just him. Not just her. Not just Dov. Dizzy carries within her all of their salvation. The answer to a riddle long unraveled. The very thing that he had never thought to want, let alone have. And it was coming. So soon, the precious would be here. And if it was the very last thing Zoryn would ever do, he would protect them. Dizzy and her child. Their child. Nothing would harm them. Not in any way. Not as long as there is breath within him. He and Diz would be better for this child; they had sworn to it. This child would know a better life than its parents had been given.
Zoryn would let no one- NO one- stand in the way of that. Jeopardize, that.
And so, it would seem he has a bone to pick. Plenty of frustration to be rid of, as he prowls through the so-familiar Forest that might as well be called his home. Hunting the man that is little more than bones over skin and more bone. He somehow knows he will be here. Knows because as the scent of the man would fade, it returns again. Taunting him with his presence. The mingling of scents; his and hers. More than a taunt. A theft. Yes, stealing away that which should have been his- had been his. Until recently. And all Zor had received had felt like rejection. Denial of the things he so needed. Leaving behind a cold, angry beast as he is now.
Amethyst-flecked brown eyes are glazed over as he hunts, nostrils flaring for a hint of his coppery scent. And like a shark to the scent of blood, he is drawn. Hones in on it and charges toward it. He cares not when the forest grows tighter and the spaces narrow, delighting in the glorious stinging as branches and thorns snag at his skin and hair. He lets it fuel him, spurring him on.
He does not slow until he breaks through the thicket, into the clearing where his target walks. The beast roars, and Zor's face tightens into a snarl as he comes into view, ears pinned beneath his ebon locks. He slows back to that prowling gait, eyes locked on Dovev, unwavering. "You." The word seethes from between clenched teeth. He takes in the sight of him as he rounds the other male, heart thundering and burning inside his chest. The other had been walking- inward, he realizes, and it doesn't take much to guess where he was headed. "Where do you think you're going." Nowhere, that's where he's going. Not until things are settled. Not until he's cleared things up a bit.

Those damn eyes.
He hated those damn eyes, had to get away from them. That soft, sad look like he’d hurt her. But she agreed, they had both agreed. He said it was best that she not touch him, not with how it affected him, what it did to him, and she agreed. She wouldn’t touch him, he wouldn’t touch her. They would just be.. whatever the fuck they were. Friends, or something. Roommates, sort of. Because Luster had moved in, of course. She was hurt, heartbroken from the stupid idiot that let her go (what a fucking cunt), and he wanted her there where he could watch over her. Make sure she was okay.
Because, despite the fact they met with his teeth ripping into her and leaving a vicious scar and a trail of blood, he cared about her. A lot. And he'd make damn sure that she was okay and fucking stayed that way.
Well. As much as he could between training, hunting some metal bastard, and seeing Dizzy every chance he got.
And Dizzy was exactly who he needed today.
He needed to remember the black and the white of her skin (as if he could forget), bury himself in her exotic scent. Trace every curve til he could draw her flawlessly in his mind without looking. Then do it again. And again. Let his mind shut down for a while and only see her. Dizzy. Feel that little prick in her belly punch at his face. Zoryn’s kid, you know. Figures. Although, Dizzy had a mouth on her too. Mmm, a damn good one. Would probably be born talking shit to him once it sees him. So what if that made him smile a little? It just figures. He’d just go soak himself in his Dizzy for a while, her smile, her scent, her touch. Hold her close just as she liked, as they liked. His haven, his Dizzy. Get away from the wild confusion constantly consuming his mind now. That goddamned dream.
It hadn't happened. It was just a dream.
He reminded himself of that quite a lot.
Because it sure as hell hadn’t felt like a dream.
But it was. And Dizzy wasn’t. Dizzy was his, and he was hers. Damn, that still terrified him. It wasn’t supposed to happen, had never meant for it to happen. A freak accident. A really -damn- incredible freak accident. And as far as he knew, she and Zor had been done ever since that day. Over with. He'd asked her for that, hadn't he? A promise she couldn't keep. Or maybe she could. Maybe it wasn't fair for him to ask it of her. No, fuck that, of course it was. But really, he had no way of knowing, and fuck did that piss him off.
Whatever.
He wouldn't ask it of her. She could make her own choices, right? He didn't want to know. This wasn't like with Cerva. She wasn't at his side 24/7, and probably wouldn't want to be. And he sure as hell didn't want her there if fucking Zoryn would be tagging along. Zor knew how he was; he doesn't fucking share. Nobody touches whats his. Not if they wanted to breathe another second of their pathetic life. Even Zoryn. Never mind that they had their past, the three of them. Zoryn knew how he was. He'd either respect it and back the fuck off or challenge it.
"You."
Aaaannnd, we're going to fucking challenge it. He really wanted to play this game, huh? Fine. He'd play. They were the ones who made the rules, after all. The two of them. He’d play.
Something shifted in his mind, clicked into place.
Zoryn stalked towards him, that beast burning so brightly in those brown eyes flecked with amethyst. Dovev turned to him readily, easily. Eagerly. And he stalked forward too. He’d take this head-on like every other challenge. They rounded and circled each other like rabid wolves looking for an opening, a wicked grin tipping his black lips, setting that spot of blue in the corner to twinkling. Did Zoryn remember that grin? Remember what it tasted like with his own blood on it? Zoryn was a big bastard. There was a lot of blood to go around, and he liked to share, didn’t he?
”Where do you think you’re going.”
To Dizzy, obviously. But he knew that already, and Dovev’s wolfish smile widened just a little, black eyes glittering. What’s the matter, Zor, he purred softly in that sexy-smooth voice Zoryn knew so, so very intimately. They circled another time, slowly, their eyes locked on each other. Dovev had training on his side, some fucking intense training from the magician that claimed the brand burned into his flank. He had speed, strength that couldn’t be guessed at by the look of his bone-thin, starved body. So frail, he looked, as though he hadn’t eaten in months. And this armor, these bone plates that grew in painful phases, bled freely and made him look as dangerous and terrifying as he was. His own daughter knew him for a monster. His sightless daughter that left him for his greatest enemy.
He pushed the thoughts away, buried them like he was so good at doing. There was only he and Zor.
Zoryn had strength too. Probably more so with his blood, so thick and muscled. Broad, and yet still quick. So swift. He hadn’t gotten the formal training, but with how often they beat the shit out of each other, he’d certainly picked up a few things. He had that wild side, too. The unpredictability of a secret beast.
Dov had a wild side too. His rage. But Zor didn’t typically ignite that, oddly enough.
What's the matter, he repeated in a whisper, leaning into the pocket of air between them. Decide you miss me after all? Huh, Zor? After all this fucking time?! He spat the last of it with a snarl. His pace slowed and he carefully came to a stop, watching the gold-and-white bastard’s every faintest move. Ready to dodge, ready to strike. He took a step forward. His face smoothed again.
Don’t you miss it, Zor? Quiet again. Another step, straight on, bottomless black eyes staring into Zor’s. He remembered when they first met, when it all started. How they’d bitten into that spot just there, there in that soft hollow between shoulder and neck. How it sang through Zoryn’s body, tilted his head in ecstasy, and how Zor’s pleasure in that pain had fueled his own. That surge of power knowing he’d done that to Zor, he’d put that pleasure there. Dov swore to him that day. And he reminded him now.
Don’t you remember?
I’m the only one that can truly sate you, give you what you need.
Did he really have to remind him again?
He pressed forward. One last, slow step, and his eyes left Zor’s as his head turned, dipped to that scar that was his, there in that strong shoulder. He touched his lips to it, just barely, felt the heat of Zor's skin. His heart raced, as it always did. A hot breath fanned against the gold. With a sudden jerk of movement, he sank his teeth in, that spot that was HIS, bit down and clamped tight, rolled that familiar tang over his tongue with a soft groan. His jaw clenched tighter, then he released with a sigh, licking slowly at the corner of his lips. He knew that taste. He knew Zoryn's blood.
He turned his head, pressed his bloodied lips just below Zoryn’s ear and whispered the bastard’s words back to him.
Do something.

What's the matter. What's fucking wrong. It is the tone of his voice, challenging, unconcerned. What's wrong is that gleam in his eyes; he knows exactly where he's going and he doesn't give a shit. What's wrong is the completely easy way he was ruining things. Had already ruined things. He was taking EVERYTHING. And fucking grinning about it as they circled each other like the predators they were. The beast in his mind roars and spits, coiling on itself and scraping the floor of its cage with its claws. So badly it seeks release, but in its cage, it remains. Still, a muscle twitches in his shoulder as Dovev dips a bit closer to him to whisper again. To send taunts at him. Taunts he barely hears through the roaring in his mind. Purple flecks glint like jewels in his eyes as he catches every movement in the boney-plated stallion. Their fury feeds off each other, just as it has every time before. Miss him? Hardly. Maybe once, he had craved him- sought him out. But no longer. No longer did he crave to be denied over and over. No, he was well over that.
Zoryn's steps ceased when Dovev's did, another muscle twitching when he took a step toward him. A low rumble from deep in his chest was the only response to the other's question. He still doesn't speak, even as Dovev steps closer to him, only lashes his side with his tail. Ears sink back into his wild black and white mane, pinned, nostrils flaring. Closer, yes, come closer. The beast growls low, stilling its movements, coiled. Anger burns hot coals in the pit of his stomach and he wants so badly to strike. Yet he waits. Dovev is such a cocky bastard, somehow impossibly sexy even dispite his horrid, gangly appearance. He proves that further with his next set of words.
"Don’t you remember? I’m the only one that can truly sate you, give you what you need."
His eyes flash fury and he scoffs, even as he remembers. Oh, he remembers. Dov's eyes slide down to that spot on his neck, the scar he'd left on his shoulder. Delicious pleasure-pain that had been the start of so much more. Much much more. And now here they were. The same, but different. "So full of yourself." And of course he was. With the way he could so effectively alter the course of anyone he met, and had done so as he pleased. With no thought of consequence. Of how it affected others. Him, namely. It was unforgivable, what he'd done. And Zoryn would sooner lay down and die before he let it continue. Let it worsen.
Dov closed the gap between them, so slowly, and pressed his mouth to that very same spot all those- months? years?- ago. He let him closer, let him in. And couldn't help the spread of heat that coursed through him at the sensation. He braced himself, knowing, his beast deathly silent at that moment. He didn't have long to wait. Those black lips lifted and teeth clamped down on that very spot of gold. The pinkened skin that had puckered and scarred. Tender. Zoryn hissed, but didn't flinch- didn't pull away even as he felt his skin give under the pressure and his blood trickle down his leg. Half groan, half growl escaped as Dov clenched even harder before releasing. His muscle in his shoulder twitched and twitched at the stinging there. His eyes went hooded, yet brighter at the pain. So good, so so good. Zor's eyes dart to his blood on Dov's lips, linger there, but he doesn't move another damn muscle, waiting. Everything in him tightened, burning hotter, his beast a constant low lull in his head.
He waited.. waited. Deathly still and silent, ears pinned and lips twitching to keep from baring them. Like the pull of a magnet, Dovev moved in again, his face along his and his mouth going to his ear. A shiver of anticipation crept up his spine, unlocking something deep, as his lips touch his ear and then the words came. Do Something.
Just like that, Zoryn came unhinged. Leaving no warning, only action. His head jerked and he was pulling Dov's own ear into his mouth, snatching and clenching- yanking as he twisted his body and rose. Shoving with his chest, he struck out with his forelimbs, aiming at anything. Uncaring. He released his hold and lunged to the side, then, planting his fores and unfurling the muscles in his hinds, kicking up and out at him, anxious for that impact. The blood on his lips is so familiar and sweet, leaving him hungry for more. He moves out and around, hoof striking the ground heavily as he flashed his glare at Dovev.
"You will not have her, Dovev. You will not ruin her. Not her. Not our child. I will not let you ruin them as you do everything else. Cerva, Leliana, Atrani. Dizzy will not fall on your list. She is MINE." His teeth bared as he spoke, painted with Dov's blood, his voice a mere gutteral growl. "I will not let you ruin them. You will have to go through me first." He spit it out, and charges in again, aiming to throw his weight into the plated stallion, aching for the clash of their bodies as he perhaps knocks the other off-balance. He doesn't expect it, but he goes wild with the fury, anxious for the pain. To deliver the message he came here to bring. "You will not take them from me!" Soul deep rage exuded from him as he aimed another bite at the flesh of his neck not covered by the bone, seeking to render and maim. He only wished for the fang and claws of the beast in his head, snarling and huffing, urging him on.

That goddamn groan sang to him, Zor’s helpless utterance of pleasure. He loved the pain, loved the things Dov did to him, and Dov in turn loved doing them to him. Pushing and forcing his way into getting those moans from Zor. That’s what they’d always done, wasn’t it? Tease and taunt and bite and harm each other til one took over the other, til someone’s hips were higher than the other’s. He always tried to make sure he was on the upper hand, but Zor was a big bastard, and there were times he had to give it up and let Zor take what he wanted.
He hated getting fucked. Wanted to be the one in power, in control. Needed it. But those times were made alright because of Dizzy. He’d hated her too, made sure to rough her up real good, take his frustration out with each violent thrust and the sink of his teeth tearing into her. But at least when she was around, he got to fuck too. He loved and hated each swing of his hips, needing the wild pleasure of thrusting inside her only to have to back out and take Zor deeper into himself. The fucking bastard. He’d hated Dizzy. It never would have been that way if she hadn’t come around. Zor would have been fine being beneath him every time instead of having to show her he had balls too.
Or so Dov saw it.
He whispered to him, those words that had started it all, and Zor jerked and snatched his ear. Dovev cried out, immediately shifting with the blond’s movement so he could keep his fucking ear attached to his goddamn head, taking Zor’s beating full-on with grunts when he met soft flesh and loud clacks when he met bone plate. Fuck, Zor!
Zoryn released him, and they both lunged to the side in opposite directions - Dov to gain distance and check the damage at his bleeding ear, and Zor to attack with his hind legs. The bone stallion felt the air whistle passed him, barely getting clear of those hooves that could feel like fucking cannons punching into him. He danced away more in case there was another attack, trying to stay on the defensive. He didn’t fucking want to fight him, not when Zor was like this. Mindless and raging. Wasting their time. Dovev didn’t have much free time, and he sure as hell didn’t want it spent beating the hell out of each other when he had better things to do. He never really got to see Dizzy, he just wanted to see Dizzy. Because, turned out, he didn’t much hate Dizzy after all. And despite how they’d treated each other before, they just… got each other. She understood him. Accepted him for all his fucked up ways. She wanted him. She might even love him.
"You will not have her, Dovev. You will not ruin her. Not her. Not our child. I will not let you ruin them as you do everything else. Cerva, Leliana, Atrani. Dizzy will not fall on your list. She is MINE."
Fuck you, Zor. I didn’t ruin Leliana, YOU did, and don’t you fucking say her name again. Ever! I didn’t fucking remember Cerva, and Atrani walked out because of everything with Leli. I didn’t do any of it, if anyone ruined things for me, or for them, it was YOU. You and your goddamn interfering!
He kept talking as he dodged more of Zor’s blows, pausing long enough to quickly regain his balance after their bodies collided and replace the bare space of distance between them, constantly shifting with Zor’s onslaught.
And you’re fucking doing it now, Zor! Look at you! Dizzy wants this. She wants ME. You’re fucking it up again. Stop fucking interfering! He ducked his head in a desperate attempt to avoid those reaching teeth at his neck, following the movement to drop his head low and throw himself under Zor’s chest. He planted his feet and thrust himself upwards and forwards, trying to throw Zoryn off-balance and force him to wake up from his rage. As soon as he finished the move, he danced away again, black eyes sharp and bright and trained on the gold stallion. His chest heaved, breathing heavily, and he dimly felt the hot trickle of blood flow from his ear and down his neck. He was quieter when he spoke again, making Zor really listen in order to hear him.
What do you think will happen here? That I’ll back off, I’ll back down? You know me better than that. She’s mine, I’m not letting go. I won’t let you take her from me like you took Leliana. And I’m not sharing her either. Not unless she wanted it. Not unless she wanted it back to how it was, having him and Zor at the same time. But he didn’t add that aloud, didn’t want to give either her or Zor that option. She was his, only his. I don’t fucking want your kid, Zor. Have your family with her, I don’t care. But she’s mine. If I back off, it will be because she wants me to. I’m hers. He’d do whatever she wanted. Except he wouldn’t.
