great clouds rolling over the hills
and if you close your eyes, does it almost feel
He welcomes the first bite of winter in the air, the hint of coming snow in the air as Autumn starts to turn to winter. The world has been too warm – much too warm – for him since the faeries destroyed the Tundra. His home of nearly sixty years, destroyed by magic Brennen couldn’t even start to fight. And of course his first thought was to create another, a new Tundra, find a new home and encase it with ice, but that power has been taken from him as well. The wind no longer blows ice cold at his very thought.
Brennen has always served the Tundra, his brotherhood, but now he feels like he has failed them. They are scattered now to new endeavors, new lives, and without a homeland what can he do about it? He has a small family left, a few who had already been gathered to him when it happened, but most of his extended family is missing alongside his brothers. And the Falls – he’d been drawn to the Mountain with the others whose powers have been stripped, and upon his release he had run as fast as he could to the ruins of where the Tundra should have stood. When it was clear there was nothing he could do there, he’d gone to where the Falls should have been…same thing, nothing.
A more opportunistic man might have seen that as a release from his vows. A release from a Brotherhood he had served for nearly sixty years, and a release from his long-ago vows to that little (well not so little anymore) family in the Falls. But Brennen just sees an empty future ahead of him.
