    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

you know that you love him if you put him in your will.

Many turnings of the sands of time had been made since the last appearance she graced this world with.  Her awkwardness gone and childish features more defined.  Her hide had shed the fluff along with the physical scars of the past.  Her mind that was once carefree and filled with innocence blackened as did her soul...

Reborn from the solitude of the outlands she found herself among the many homeless, by choice or fate she did not care.  Was their problem not hers.  She had enough burdens weighing on her.  Her "home" was long gone and her "family" with it.  She was and had been alone for a majority of her existence.  It was all good though, she enjoyed her own company.  No rules, no responsibility, no expectations.  Wasn't a purposeful life many would say but it was hers... All hers

Dark pools viewed the gatherings of friends, family, strangers, all greeting and conversing.  Not she though.  She stalked about the edges.  Keeping to herself, thinking back to her own "family".  Only one came to thought that truly may have cared for her... Her father.  He was the only one who stood up when all the others stood down.

Her mind had wandered in thought as she picked her way through the lands.  Horns tucked tightly to her crown as they always were presented.  She wasn't afraid of danger, she relished in it.  Almost welcomed it.  Time was not wasted being cautious.  Her attention was caught briefly by a large group of equines and... Canines.  Strange.  Motion came to a halt as she viewed such happenings.  Nape stiffened to attention, nares flared as scents upon the breeze intruded upon her.  Many scents came.  Most she was familiar with were long gone but this one was burnt in her.  A faint scent of familiarity wafted about her.  Dark pools closed as muzzle lifted to catch more of the scent.  Could it be? A mental picture from the depths of her cranium was found.  A deep bay frame much like her own.  One she had only fleeting glimpses of...

Without much thought of her actions, as she rarely did.  Act now, ask questions later.  She moved swiftly to the gathering paying no mind to the others.  Pools locked into the bay that everyone seemed so interested in.  Dismissing formalities and chit chat she had no time for, she pushed past the bodies that formed a circle of conversation.  A devilish grin of satisfaction played upon her expressions.  Her horns rose from there usual resting place flat upon her crown.  In an almost devilish appearance.  Lips parted as a singular word hissed forth...

Like a Thorn to the Holy Ones

Time had passed in a blur of sunrises and sunsets. A series of flashes that highlighted his approximate decade within the boundaries of Beqanna. She had shaped him, molded him to her will and need. Like a wise skilled mistress, she had taken him from foolhardy youth to skilled diplomat and tried warrior. She had blessed him with love, a home, and family. His family was unconventional, his kids were scattered but they were his, and therefore family. But it went beyond blood, he had a family in those he protected while serving Chamber and Kildare, and the friends he knew would have his back no matter what. He had always been loyal, but his sense of loyalty had matured over the years and he understood now that loyalty was more than just having someone’s back. It was why he knew, in the end, he had to return to Tephra, it was why he kept tabs on all his children, it was why he hadn’t given up on Kimber.

The late summer air was almost autumn like the slight chill that rode the end of the breeze, just enough to leave you with the lightest chill. The shadowed terrain of the forest held a greater chill than that of the field he recently vacated as to head back to Tephra. He had been looking forward to the quiet trek, so that he could reflect on the time he spent on the field and why he had become disenfranchised with Tephra to start with. But his work was never over, not really not with children scattered about. The voice he heard was distant, but the hiss held the intonation and flare of Kilgore. Karaugh The blood bay stallion hadn’t seen her in a number of years, she had left Beqanna’s lands for the in between some time ago. Prior to that, he had given her space to find her way, but he watched from a distance in case she ever needed him. Kilgore was...dark, and Karaugh often showed more of her mother than him. Nymphetamine was well aware of the things that occurred within Silver Cove, and while he would have removed his daughter from the twisted nature of Kirin and his followers-- it was not his choice, for Karaugh was old enough to choose when her mother died.

His hooves stopped atop the sparse grass and his head turned to glance in the direction of the hissed greeting. Deep brown, and kissed with a touch of white across her brow, she was not the leggy thing he say last, but she had filled in, grown up. She looked well, and he was glad for it. ”I wondered when you would return, I never thought you would stay away forever. You look well, Karaugh.”He didn’t turn around but instead flicked his head in an invitation to walk with him. Nymphetamine had stopped aging at the lovely age of 7, or was it 8? He looked merely a few years older than his third eldest child, second if you count the twins as one. He enjoyed his youth and therefore didn’t wish to stand about wasting it when his daughter could walk just as easily as he. He walked for awhile in silence, leading the way through the trees, in a lightly woven path. If Karaugh decided to slip off into the darkness, that was fine, but he figured she had found him for a reason, and that she would follow.

Kilgore was calculated, and in some ways so was Karaugh, he had a reason for everything she had ever done, whether it was a good one or not was up for question but there was a reason nonetheless. After the quiet had sat for long enough he flipped his eyes to the side towards his brazen daughter, ”So...what brought you back… to me?” She obviously no longer needed a protector, but somewhere deep down a girl always needs her father. Karaugh may be wild and restless, but somethings are universal… even if not noticeable on the surface.

The days had ticked by like the second hand on a grandfather clock.  Having lived in a learn quick or die up bringing time was nothing.  She hadn't kept track of the when's and where's of her short life and I doubt he cared for exact details on her where abouts... She was alive and well, that's what really mattered.

Beqanna was her birthplace and though she had freed herself of its grip something beckoned her back within its clutches or someone.  Wandering the outlands she had run into very few familiar faces.  Most recently before coming a pair of equines who had a proposition... One of potential power.  Their words were like honey to the hive of thoughts she had... Ones of gaining powers her mother had wished upon all her minions.  She was not one of those fortunate enough to bare one by lineage alone.  She'd have to earn hers and earn she would...

Devilish grin played about her features as she eyed her father.  He was as she remembered and expected honestly.  It was warming even to her cold heart.  He motioned a "walk with me, talk with me" offering... She entertained the offer.  She matched him stride for stride, eye to eye.  A nod was given to his compliment on her health.  She was of few words unless they were needed.  Solitaire life needs no words so she was accustom to it.  As they walked her harsh expression that was the norm for her diminished slightly.  Maybe she didn't feel she had to be so on edge in his presence.

She listened to his next words as the picked their way through the land.  Lush green grasses faded to dried fodder as the days grew short once again. This was her favorite time of year.  The new life of Spring and sustaining summer weather was now dying.  Giving way to the darkness to follow.  She grinned.  His words were as she expected them to be... Kind, curious to her presence and probably a tad hinting towards her plots.  She was her mother's daughter after all.

I have my reasons for coming back to Beqanna.  As for seeing you, can I not wish my father well?

Devilish grin once more played with her features. She knew he would catch her question as not a question at all.  Maybe it was her passive way of saying she missed having family around without seeming like she cared nor needed anyone.  She entertained him with a question of her own...

Where do you call home these days?

Unsure of where exactly she fit into this new Beqanna she was homeless so to speak.  The dark parts of her clashed with most dwellings here it seemed.  She'd need to figure out something soon though...

A smile, devilish he was sure whipped across her face. But he didn’t judge her for her more...wicked ways. How could he? He didn’t raise her, but he knew the environment for which she was raised. Her words dripped with foreshadowing and the blood bay could only wonder what plans were whirling around in that brilliant mind of hers. ”Never need a reason to come to me, you know this. I’ve always been available for all my children.” He continued forward edging ever closer to Tephra. While he was anxious to return and begin working on whatever Magnus needed him to do, he was not rushing the time with his daughter either.

Her next caused him to pause, for he thought he might know where this was going. Petya has stayed in Chamber largely because of him, and he did not wish his offspring to mere follow him around for the sake of proximity. Karaugh, however, was her own soul, musc more independent than Petya, so the worry was not nearly as prominent with her. ”I am a member of Tephra, the land over by the volcano. Are you interested in joining a kingdom… or territory, whatever we are calling thing them now.” She would be a formidable member of an opposing kingdom, given time and opportunity. The thought stuck in the forefront of his mind and he mulled over what she was planning. If he got word of anything that concerned him he would surely address it then, but for now it was no use in over reacting.

His own legs moved forward again curious as to where the conversation was heading, ”Tell me, what do you think of the changes in Beqanna? The Reckoning was quite the event, no?”

She kept pace with him as he seemed he had someplace to be.  She had none so she didn't mind the distraction.  She had no offers of position within any realm. Why would she, she was nothing special...  She watched his expressions turn from curiosity to concern.  Like she had intentions to harm someone close to him, them... She played with the thought,

You look worried... She grinned but he had nothing to be concerned with. She continued with words of their home,
Tephra you say.  I have not visited that realm yet.  The volcano seems worthy of a visit there... She questioned wether he would extend a tour but she figured he had better things to do then escort her.  Maybe she would visit anyhow... Beqanna is not what I remember it to be.
As they came to the border of the lands, where the stream met the tree line she wondered how deep it could be... She wasn't gifted with wings like a bird nor Immortality to be careless.  She was carrying more weight than normal for her slender frame.  Looking back at her heaving sides.  Hoping soon to rid her body of the package leeching from her.  She halted at the water edge, muzzle lowered to quench a mortals thirst.  She stepped forward to wade knee deep.  The current wasn't too fast...
