    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Salt water drips down the sodden length of Djinni's dark mane as she emerges from the sea, stepping carefully as she makes her way through the shallows. She reaches the sand, lit brightly by the glow of a nearly-full moon, and then turns back to watch the band of dolphins disappear into the distance.

She's been swimming since the early afternoon, and the exhaustion in her muscles has finally begun to catch up to her.

Still, Djinni is not yet inclined to rest, so she stands, shivering slightly in the brisk autumn breeze, feeling the water slowly begin to evaporate from her dove-grey coat and dry stiffly in her frosted mane and tail. There is no one else on the beach that she can see - if there were, she would seek them out for conversation - so she watches the dolphins until they are indistinguishable from the distant cresting waves, and only then does she turn away from the sea.

She debates looking for Haliaka, or seeing if Lumi or Vlinder had made it to the coast before nightfall, but she is sure that if any of her recruits had wanted to be found that they would make no secret of it. Despite the rather contentious meeting of the peace caste, Djinni had already been well on her way to fulfilling what had been asked of them.

That, she remembers, had bothered her. Not the request - no, that is perfectly normal in kingdoms - but rather the attitude that had greeted it, especially given the nature of what else had been asked of the Sisterhood. She's done her part in bringing in new members, she decides, and now it is time to decide if the leaders are worth following.

Naga has already left her waiting, Lagertha had sought her out - that leaves only Hestia. It is not yet too late in the evening to expect the others to be awake still, so the grullo tobiano lets out a low call for the black mare that thinks blindly following orders given by complete strangers in in everyone's best interest.
