    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    The Mountain..
She did the only thing she knew how to do in a situation like this: she ran! Her little hooves scuttled down the mountainside. Many times she tripped and cut herself open, but adrenaline kept the pain at bay. She was driven by fear, fear of whatever could take her precious wings away. She just wanted to be away from here, and fast!

Azar reached the smoother pathway and gave it all she got. She squeezed passed the larger adults, sometimes sliding beneath the taller ones. The dark forest loomed ahead. She feared what was in there, too, but she was also more comfortable in a forest where it was so easy to hide away somewhere.

She felt her head grow heavier, and heard a zip of magic somewhere nearby. This also terrified her, afraid of what other limbs the powerful deity might take from her. Carrying her head felt unwieldy and awkward now, but she dared not stop. It must be the after effects of the magic..
    The Forest..

She burst into the forest. She ran and ran and ran, but finally she must've cut too close to a thick tree as her head slammed in to something with a thunk! Dizzy and disoriented, she stood a moment, regaining her wits. She tried to shake it off, but her head was good and stuck! She wasn't even touching the tree! Her bright mind saw what her little eyes could not: the unicorn's horn smack in the middle of her forehead.

Azar deflated, her hips collapsing beneath her in a pathetic sitting position as her head remained steadfastly lodged within a tree. Little tears glittered silently down her cheeks as she sniffed sadly at her predicament. She wanted her wings back. What the heck were horns even for, she thought woefully.

She could not hide safely beneath them, like her wings. Instead she stood out like a beacon, the last thing she ever wanted to do.

    She would rather disappear.

Evidently, only the kingdoms had been swallowed up by the earth, and all of the common lands did remain, for in the air of where he currently stands is the strong scent of the land he had come to identify as being the Forest, the secondary gathering land.  The smell gives the blind stallion comfort; it reminds him of the piney perfume of their lost Chamber home.  He will follow Nymph and the rest of the former Chamberlings to wherever they can find and establish a new home, but for now Siberian is on his own, having some "me time", trying to come to terms with being unable to call upon on his shapeshifted form.  Or so he thinks.  His ears catch a clunking sound nearby, and his head tilts with confusion, wondering what that was.  After a moment, he turns and moves in that direction, trying to track it down.

He hears the sound of sniffling now, a child's by the "tone" of it, and has to restrain himself from the urge to break into a trot to reach whoever it was that much quicker.  He'd do the foal no favors if he hurt himself in the rush to reach and aid them.  Once her scent and sound of breathing are practically screaming in his nose and ears, he stops, aiming his face towards her as best he can guess, so that he at least *seems* to be looking at her despite his milky eyes.  "Hello?  Are you alright, do you need some help?  I'm Siberian, by the way.  " He's not sure what aid he can give without vision and the flexibility of bear paws, but he will try his best to help.  The Budyonny would not leave a child in distress, no matter the situation.  They were his soft spot, his weakness if you will.  Even during the invasion of the Chamber, his primary goal had been to protect the two younglings that had belonged to Kimber, despite the chaos that had descended all around them during that time.

Life went on around her, oblivious to her entrapment. Birds twittered jovially, trees sighed in bliss. Even the breeze, warmed by the musky scent of the woods, caressed her like a loving mother. And still she sat, wallowing in her misery, too dejected to think of a way out of this mess.

    What was that!

Fear widened her eyes and she held her breath, listening intently. She heard someone approach and froze. Instantly, she missed her wings. They could not hide her out here in the open, but they made her feel safe, hidden. Instead she had this useless horn protruding from her face. Of course it did not escape her she wouldn't even be in this mess were it not for the unwieldy prong.

The deep voice of a man barreled through her, asking if she was alright and naming himself Siberian. Her heart flipped and raced. With renewed vigor, her legs kicked out frantically, clipping the tree in a fit. She could see how this would end should she fail to free herself. He couldn't very well tear down a tree, he'd have to touch her. What would he do with her afterward? She'd never known any stallions before, but mama told her they were dangerous and to always stay hidden. Where was her mama, anyway? It'd been so many days since she'd seen her...

After a time, it was clear she would have to admit defeat. Her body quivered just thinking of what that meant. "I-I'm stuck," she squeaked shakily.
