    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Fiasko has finally given birth. The news comes from his raven. How the mutilated mare had cried out loud when she looked at the newborn child. How it had the eyes of the Chamber Ghost. That it was a boy. There is a spring in the pale man’s step these days. Three boys this season and they were all promising. Killgore had given him a red-eyed son as well. Minette had birthed him a vicious colt with horns growing out of it’s head. His curiosity is too much to stay away from Fiasko for long. He had been avoiding the captive at Straia’s request but he would not stay away from his son. Besides he was interested to see the answer to his initial question. Would Fiasko feel love for the boy? Would she want to keep it?

He slips quietly from the shadows, his angel wings spread wide as he saunters towards them. A wolfish gleam in the depths of red as he locks his gaze on the trio. The small yearling is still there with her strange star studded streak on her back. Fiasko is there… And the child. ”What have we here?” The words creep through the darkness like strange fingers that grope along your backside. Making the hair on your neck stand on end. ”Someone you want to introduce me too Fiasko?” It is rather sad how nobody had come to rescue them. Where was their King? Surely he wanted the Queen back, surely he cared? Or perhaps they knew they were better off without her. She had let the kingdom burn after all.

He finds them, like she’d known that he would.

There’s no way that he would waste the opportunity to gloat, to take pride in the fact that he had raped a weakling queen and half destroyed her kingdom. And no doubt, he has a genuine interest in the child itself, in the child that had been created in the midst of so much cruelty and fear.

    The bastard.

A small kernel of anger burns in her heart as he approaches, but her fear is still the most dominant. No matter what Straia says, this beast is barely controlled. He’s useful to the raven queen, and it would be simple enough for him to move first … and ask for forgiveness later. So it is with both fear and caution that she nudges the boy in front of her.

“This is Zayn.” She’d chosen the name because of it’s meaning - beauty and grace - as the tiniest little act of rebellion against Gryffen (so small it will likely never be noticed). It does suit him at least - Zayn is a handsome little thing even at his young age. Except for the eyes.

She nudges boy again, at the same time angling herself between Gryffen and Caitlin. She might not care about what happens to herself any more, but she will do her best to protect her daughter from Gryffen’s attention. “Zayn, this is your father.”

The boy’s head cocks to the side, red eyes studying Gryffen with a cold curiosity that Fiasko has come to recognize. It’s a detached, calculating look, and it frightens her to see it in a boy so young.

Zayn takes a step forward of his own accord, finally opening his mouth to speak. “Hello father.” Then he falls silent. Waiting. Observing.
