Wynters mentioned Creatures again, Ravin’s eyes had widened in immediate interest. Though he’d opened his mouth to ask more, he’d suddenly tripped over nothing at all - or perhaps a well-placed leg of his twin, who didn’t want to disturb their new friend by asking questions about something Wynters had just said she hadn’t liked.
He’ll ask later, he decides. Or maybe he’d ask Cascadia. Adults seemed more willing to talk about scary things with him, he’s found.
Ravin watches the grass for the marks his sister leaves, and misses the shock on Wynters’ face until he looks over at the sound of her voice. He grins, both at her expression and the near-inaudibility of her words, and gives a helpful: “I dunno.” followed by a soft laugh.
When the sound fades, he does continue. “She did it accidentally at first, but has mostly learned to control it. But if you really spook her though, sometimes she’ll still go invisible without thinking about it.”
Ahead of them, Luvi reappears. Using both her invisibility and sublimation, she’d slipped unnoticed right up to the nest, and confirmed that the parent bird was away and that the eggs were still unhatched.
”Come on!“ She says in a normal voice, which still startles a dove that had been about to settle on a branch directly above her now-visible body. Ravin complies, glancing back to be sure that Wynters is coming.
@ Wynters i thought i'd make them a new thread? and eventually will make luvi her own profile lol
Watching where she thinks Luvi is from the indents in the grass, still in awe at her abilities.
Glancing and Ravin she tilts her head slightly can you do thing like Luvi can as well? she asks curiously, fascinated by how different the twins seemed to her.
Startling when Luvi suddenly appear, she quickly grins, excited she wants to leap up to whatever it is the pair had wanted to show her but with the care Luvi has taken to get close she walks quietly towards the nest a few steps behind Ravin. Curiously she peers inside. What will they turn into? she asks in little more than a whisper.
Having grown up in a world where intangible magics were as plentiful as flowers, Ravin has never considered that others might not consider his sibling’s ability to make herself disappear to be unremarkable. But Wynters certainly seems interested, and she had reacted rather strangely to seeing him, he remembers.
“No,” he answers, with a pointed-toothed grin. “Nothing that you cannot see.” Extending one wing, he reveals the long pinion feathers that match the shades of blue and purple of his coat and feathers. The wings and feathers are a mark of his Stratosian heritage, as are his eyes, ever-reflecting the shade of the sky overhead. He’s not entirely sure where the teeth are from, or the mane that grows down the entire length of his back, but it’s not unusual for magic to take unusual forms, and Ravin does not give them much thought.
Ravin is truthful when he tells Wynters that he has no other abilities; he’s yet to discover that he had inherited the ability to turn others to stone from his father as well.
“Birds,” he answers when the younger filly asks what the birds will be, “but they’ll be very ugly. Bald, with really big heads and eyeballs that aren’t even open.”
“They’ll grow up to look like that,” Luvi says, her voice quiet as she gestures toward the brown bird perched nearby. It peers down at them with dark, beady eyes, clearly displeased with their presence.
She chuckles at his toothy grin. Only just noticing his odd looking teeth but she doesn't say anything.
I wonder if my father had magic? She says, thinking to herself at how amazing it would be if she did. Mum doesn't really talk about him, she gets really sad when I ask about. She says quietly.
She listen to Ravin's description of what the hatchling will look like. When luvi points out the unhappy parent the filly dips her head closer to Ravin I don't think she liked that you called her babies ugly she whispers to Ravin before looking back up to the adult bird.
Sorry momma bird she says quietly, backing away from the nest. Looking back to the twins she smiles what do we do now? She asks clearly hoping for something else
She wonders aloud if her father had magic, and Ravin lifts his feathered brow. His mother hadn’t mentioned a father being with the new arrivals, so he assumes that the mysterious individual is back wherever they’d come from.
“Our dad is Ruhr,” Ravin replies, trading his own story for Wynter’s. “I’d offer to share him with you so you could have a dad too, but he’s kinda weird to be honest.”
“Ravinkavek, that’s so rude.” Luvi hisses.
”Okay yeah but it’s also true. He is really weird. He talks to the moon.” This last he addresses to Wynters, an explanation of what the pair of them are discussing. ”and he thinks the Moon talks back.” Their mother had never been able to adequately explain, and Ruhr has never tried. Of coure the Moon speaks to him, he’d said, who else would it speak to? Certainly not to Ravinkavek or his sister.
Meanwhile, Luvi has been watching Wynters, and wonders if she should ask more about her father. She’ll ask her mother, Luvi decides, and then maybe she can ask Cascadia more about Wynter’s father. She grins at the other filly’s assessment of the lark, then nods and follows her away from the nest.
”Can’t help it if it’s true!” Ravin says up to the bird, then turns and trots to catch up to the fillies.
Luvi eyes their mothers across the little meadow, and then at the little stream. They’d still be visible there, she decides; it doesn’t count as ‘too far’. ”We could play in the creek? There’s some bullfrogs and nice rocks and even a tiny magic waterfall. Well, it’s not really magic like the big one but we pretend.” Luvi’s voice is as soft as it ever was, but Ravin notices that she is speaking more now, the way she always does when she is totally at ease.
She’s making a friend, her brother realizes, and despite all their bickering, he’s happy for her. ”Race you there!” He shouts, not caring that ‘there’ hasn’t been set, and that they’d had no warning at all.
The little filly frown Why is he is weird? she asks innocently as she listens further.
When Ravin describes that he talks to the moon the filly tilts her head How do you know he doesn't talk to the moon? she questions. Maybe he can. Just because he can't prove it, it doesn't mean its not real she continues, looking between the siblings.
Wynters rolls her eyes when he comments to the bird, giving Luvi a small smirk before speaking to Ravin You should be care with the bird, else she decides to come and pluck your eyeballs right from your head she says, without a hint of humour.
She smiles when Luvi mentions going to the creek. Yes lets go. Lets see if we can catch up to him. She says with a smile before taking off at slow canter at first, looking behind to make sure Luvi is following before increasing her.
Getting to the end of the grass however she forgets about stopping, attempting too late as she tumbles forward, doing a nose dive into the creek before flipping over, landing in the middle of the creek, somewhat glad the water isn't too high.
(Hey i was think of growing Wynters up a bit, looked through rules and can't find about that... if we planned to keep the 3 interacting need to keep that years age difference i guess... i'm happy to age her to 6 months so you can keep the twins as 2 yr olds.... or i can age her a little more.. i'm not sure)
Ravin, who has no taste for the moon and its mysteries, just rolls his eyes at Wynter’s questions. He’s certain that he’s right, and that his father is a very literal lunatic. At the mention that the bird might pluck out his eyes though, he does laugh, a quiet huff of breath shortly before he takes off for the stream.
Even if he’d given them a warning, Ravin knows that his sister cannot catch him. He has always been faster, and today is no different.
He gallops the distance to the stream, his long legs and light frame aiding with his speed. When he reaches the stream, he leaps across it, spreading his wings as though they are already strong enough to carry him in flight. They aren’t of course, so he only soars a small distance before he lands awkwardly, then spins to where he thinks the fillies will be.
Instead, Wynters is in the midst of falling into the creek, with Luvi beside her on the bank.
Luvi, who is not quite sure how she feels about the moon, is still visibly displeased with her brother and his comments. She’s never heard anything from the moon either, and Wynter’s words soothe a part of her that she’d not really been aware of. She’s saved from further reflection on it by her new friend’s smirk, and then the warning to her brother that he’d best be careful of the bird.
She giggles softly, and follows eagerly beside the other filly as they canter toward the stream.
Despite her small stature she is nimble, and her brightly colored legs move rapidly over the soft ground. She is as lightly built as her brother, and clears many tussocks of taller grass with leaps and bounds and quick flaps of her sunrise colored wings.
”Looks like you found the waterfall,” she says, her voice sounding somewhat strangled as she holds back a laugh at seeing the obviously uninjured but wet and muddy Wynters. As she takes a step forward to see if she might need to help, she sees from the corner of her eye that Ravin is doing the same. There will be a lot more splashing in the weeks and months to come as the three of them grow up.
ooh: just wrapping it up!
