    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

"Baby, we were born with fire & gold in our eyes"
Returning home was still something of a bittersweet moment. She had missed the safety of this place, where all you had to worry about was other horses. She had not realized what a wide, scary place the world could be. And then she had went there and now she did, now she realized that there were very real dangers there. There were always the more dangerous, violent ones found here, but compared to the large wolves that could have eaten her, or the zombies that had given her nightmares, it was a cake walk.

She was growing a little bit more every season. She could see it in her reflection when she took a drink, the way her legs were too long for her body but her body was slowly, slowly growing into what she ought to have finished so long ago. Her ears flickered at this (she's thankful that most of her emotions seem to have involuntary reactions to her body so she doesn't have to remember how) in annoyance, but once she is big she will be stronger, faster, more able to cope with this life here.

But then she would have to watch out for those rogue stallions, too intent on trying to break mares by making babies they would never have to raise.

She didn't worry about that too much now. Hopefully when she did she would have her Da back and he could worry about it for her. This thought makes her grin a little and she can hear his advice in his wonderful voice in her head. No doubt he would tell her to come to him should anything ever happen to her and he would take care of it. Typical Da maneuver. She missed him, something horrible.

She did, really. But another called to her heart, called to her soul and she missed her friend more than anyone. There was nothing like finding someone who got you, who sometimes knew more about you than anyone else. She missed Strange and her strange ways, missed all she seemed to know, the old soul in the young body. Gods above she missed her. She remembered being younger in mind and body, being jealous and envious of the gifts that Strange had. Now, she just wanted her friend back, wanted to wander and be happy and just be there with her.

She sighs, her legs moving her slowly through the snow on the ground, eating up the Meadow in her slow strides.
