    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

I am Heaven sent, don't you dare forget
Before Aela had come, his view of the world had been rather small. Now it seems to bloom and expand before him, thousands of possibilities of things he could be or do all because of the small seed of faith she had planted in him. There is still that voice in his head that tells him he can’t escape destiny, he can’t escape what he is. It would be a lie to pretend he can’t feel that darkness within him, that natural tendency that shows itself in his powers. But as he looks up at the beautiful face before him, he thinks there’s nothing he wouldn’t do to try and prove everyone wrong. Including himself.

Gleaming yellow eyes follow the direction in which she points and when she says the word “home”, a brilliant grin appears that seems to lighten the usual sullen features he had grown use to displaying. There is no hesitance as he falls into step with the golden mare. For a moment he thinks to leave with his head held high, to prowl out of the den and never look back. But something does make him look back and as he glances behind him at the foals left behind, he sees something that he had missed before.

There are scowls and frowns on the other children and the wariness on their faces lingers but behind that he can finally see what should have been so blatantly obvious before. They were jealous that he was the one going to a home. Perhaps envious of his powers too. And more than that… they were sad. Sad to be left behind again. He quickly turns his head as he catches back up to her, the grin disappearing beneath his thoughtful frown as he remembers all the different terrible’s in the world and suddenly realizes that the world itself might be terrible too.
