Update to breeding rules:
Players can now choose gender and color (as long as it’s genetically possible, we will be checking) for each breeding. Additionally, players can request traits to an extent (if the fairy rolls them as expressed and mutated; see example). This is not mandatory; you can still choose to have the fairy roll for both. - Ex. Susie and Tom’s foal (insert parents’ stats here): I am requesting a male named Joseph, palomino; if twin is rolled, female named Penny, buckskin. If Tom’s shapeshifting rolls as expressed and mutated, I would like to request raccoon shifting for Joseph.
Update to Name Rules
Names that do not have a) a player or b) BQ lines or children may now be reused.

NEW OPTION FOR STEALS
Brought to you by the amazing @[Calcifer]!!!!
Notes:
This is entirely optional. You may still continue to steal using the riddle format.
If you won an extra block for steals for Christmas, you may either use them as an extra block in the riddle format, or a re-draw for the card format.
Stealer openly reveals which character(s) you are attempting to steal from what land(s).
Stealee must accept within 3 days, otherwise it is a default win to stealer.
Judge will draw two cards using this website for each person, including screenshots of their draw. An Ace card will count as 11.
Whichever person gets closest to 21 without going over wins.
Example:
Princess posts she is stealing Thunder from La La Land.
Thunder responds accepting the steal.
Judge posts:
PRINCESS
Jack + Jack = 20
THUNDER
King + 7 = 17
Princess successfully steals Thunder.

We will be clarifying in the rules that all champions can be any character as long as they are active as defined in the rules. Please post in updates if your champion needs to be changed.
December 26, 2018
With the shuffling about of lands and a limited number of kingdoms, we’ve implemented a new ‘type’ of land: Territories, which will essentially function as subkingdoms. There is a pinned thread in "Updates" for you to post your lands’ designations. We have extended the deadline for this until January 15th, but please respond as soon as possible so we can start to work on icons and other updates. As always, please feel free to PM any owner or officer (or the Officials account) with any questions! The following rules have been updated in the Lands/Mutiny & Raids/Challenges & Steals sections in the Rules.
LANDS
-Players may not lead two kingdoms, but can lead another herd or territory. This rule is subject to change in the future dependent on activity.
-Horses may reside in multiple lands at a time but only of different types: i.e. a horse may belong to a Kingdom and a Herd but not two Kingdoms or two herds.
HERDS
-Herds consist of a single leader (mare or stallion) and their family.
-Herd leaders can only challenge/steal from other herd leaders, though Leaders may appoint a Champion to fight challenges for them.
-Horses in Kingdoms/Territories may warn herds about steals for the herd, but the herd itself must block the steal.
-There are a maximum of three named ranks within a herd: Leader, Second-in-Command or Mate, and Champion.
-Kingdom leaders have the ability to remove a leader of a herd and replace them with another horse with an in-character reason; this must be approved by the officers.
-Herds may become Territories with permission of their Area Kingdom. If this occurs, please post an update so the land’s notation can be changed.
TERRITORIES
-Territories should be considered a sort of nobility in relation to their associated Kingdom.
-They may engage in conflict with other Kingdoms and Territories only with the permission of their Kingdom. Thus, some Territories may have vastly more freedom than others, depending on their Kingdom.
-Leaders of Territories may be referred to by any title except King or Queen (i.e. Lord or Lady).
-Kingdom rulers have the ability to remove leaders from a Territory and replace them with other horses with an in-character reason; this must be approved by the officers. If the reason for replacing the leader is due to lack of loyalty, the conflict must be resolved IC.
-Likewise, the leader of a Territory may challenge the leader of a Kingdom for supremacy, but this too must be approved by the Officials. Should the leader of the Territory win, their land will become a Kingdom and the previous Kingdom will become either a Territory or a Herd.
-Territories may attempt to function as an independent entity from their Area Kingdom and change their loyalties for IC reasons, but they are still subject to the sovereignty of a kingdom.
-Territories can become Herds with permission of their Area Kingdom. If this occurs, please post an update so the land’s notation can be changed.
KINGDOMS
-Kingdoms cannot steal from or challenge herds.
-Kingdoms cannot steal from or challenge territories (other than their own) directly, but they can steal and challenge for territory residents by stealing from/challenging that territory’s kingdom.
MUTINY & RAIDS
-Herd leaders cannot be ousted by vote without IC permission from their kingdom leader, but they can be challenged for without their kingdom leader’s permission. If the challenger wins, that does not necessarily mean they will be accepted by the kingdom leader and could still potentially be ousted.
STEALS
-A written steal from a territory by a kingdom must include clues to the stolen horse, the territory, the kingdom, and the kingdom leader(s). Such a steal can be blocked both by the kingdom and the territory.
-If a horse belongs to two lands and is stolen, the are effectively stolen from both homes, though the steal must be for the highest ‘level’ of home they belong to. (Kingdom > Territory > Herd)

Automatic Aging
We now have automatic aging for characters, so you don't have to remember to update your age anymore! A few notes:
1) The age of your character must be a number (no decimals) for this to work
2) If your character is immortal, you can change the age to "immortal" unless you want to track how old they are, in which case just leave the number to see how ancient your character gets
3) If your character is dead, they probably shouldn't be aging anymore, so change your age to "deceased"
4) If you have some weird slow aging or something happening and just want to avoid the automatic aging system, write your age out like "ten" instead of 10, and the system won't work for that particular character
All that said, please take a few minutes to update your characters! Additionally, keep an eye on them over the next few months to make sure the system is working, but so far it's been working in tests. I have it set to update on the 18th of every other month, starting with January (so basically birthing season). So it should theoretically update all your babies tomorrow if I didn't screw it up....I may need to adjust dates and such till we get it exactly right, but that's where we are at for now.
Closing Threads
February 4, 2020
You can now close threads when they are finished. Why? Because the threadlog is pretty cool, and it has some nifty features. The most nifty feature is the ability to filter to "Needs Replies" threads, which will show you a list of all the threads you are in where you are not the last person to reply. However, this feature will pull all open threads, so if you want to limit what you see to only active threads you need to close completed threads.
How do you close threads? Only the creator of the thread can close the thread. Once the thread is finished and no one else intends to post, the thread creator should go and click on the lock icon next to "New Reply", which will close the thread. Easy peasy!
April 30th, 2020
One:
Steals will now be In-Character posts, made in the land where the horse(s) being stolen live, with the following format:
1- Primary Stealer posts in land
2 - (optional) secondary and tertiary stealers posts in the stealing thread
3 - within 72 hours, steal is blocked IC by the horse being stolen, the leader of the land, and/or the champion of the land
4 - a 6-sided die is rolled for each participating horse, and the 'team' with the highest score wins
All stealing horses and blocking horses must be active characters (according to activity rules – minimum 3 posts in the last 30 days, not including the steal). If they are not, their block is invalid. Players are responsible for ensuring their character qualifies as active
It can assumed there is a trickster fairy that allows for otherwise unreasonable power imbalances in horses stealing and those being stolen.
The steal board will be replaced by a thread in the Plains, where the link to steals should be psoted for judgement. If you do not post your steal in the steal thread, it is very likely it will be missed, so don’t forget to do that!
Two:
Challenges will also now need to be posted in the land where they are occurring, with “ready to be judged” threads in the Plains
Three:
We will be enforcing the limit of eight spaces of traits for all horses, regardless of their TEG. If your character has over the 8 spaces (even if they are not expressed due to them being TEGTEG or TEGteg), please post in updates which traits you'd like to keep and which will become carried instead.
Four:
Please stay on top of updating the leaders for lands per the rules. If you have any questions about these rules or need any clarifications, please contact the moderators
Five:
We’ll be adding a Newsflash channel in the Discord (thanks Tangi for the suggestion!) to help keep everyone up-to-date on In-character events. Events don’t have to be important to be posted in this channel, but everything posted does need to be on topic (ie just a link to the thread and an update/summary). If you want to reply to a Newsflash, do so in the appropriate channel.

Added a section for Champions to the rules
- A Champion is a horse selected by the leader to serve as a protector and warrior for the kingdom (and sometimes territories).
- Champions must be selected by the land leaders prior to any challenges or steals and must be listed on the main land board (post in updates to have these changed or updated).
- If no champion is listed, the Champion is automatically the General or highest ranking official in the land.
- Champions must be active characters, but do not have to reside in the same land of which they are champions. However, they are only able to block steals if they live in the land.
Added/updated the following rules for Steals
- That land has 72 hours to block the steal, in character, by the horse being stolen, the leader of the land, and/or the champion of the land. If the leader is being stolen, any active member of the land may block the steal (with a max of no more than 3 horses blocking).
- You must live in the land to block the steal, meaning Kingdoms may not block steals for Territories (this includes Champions if they do not reside in the land).
- A 20-sided die is rolled for each participating horse. The highest roll from each 'team' will determine the winner.
Updated the genetics guide
Go read it
Other
- Removed the rule that says kingdoms cannot steal from territories. Enjoy.
- Updated the active character description to require players provide proof. Active Characters: characters that have posted at least three times in the past 30 days, with at least two posts made inside their land itself. Additionally, characters must have the land icon by their name in order to be considered active in that specific land. When posting to anything that requires you to be an 'active character', please provide links as proof of your active status.
Challenge Time Limits
Have been updated as follows: There is a time limit of 5 days between all challenge posts (the time limit starts from the date the challenge is posted, not the date a challenge is accepted). Challenges for leadership/ranks or land changes have a time limit of 3 days between posts. This time limit may be shortened with agreement between both players, but may not be lengthened except in a mock.
October 17, 2020
Quests
- The time limit between quest attempts is now two-weeks.
- Quest requests will now be rolled with a fancy roller made by Devin (on the breeding calculator page). The smaller the trait, the more likely you are to receive a successful quest.
Land Groups
You can now add yourself to land groups without waiting for the lead leader to accept you.
