    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

[private]  I fumbled it when it came down to the wire
    #1

Curiosity drew Derelict into the new land that had appeared, even if it was a little belated. The quake that had rumbled across Beqanna had woken her from sleep and every night since she’s started awake, expecting another one.

Others surely would have investigated the cause, she had no real interest at all except when word had reached her that a whole new land had sprung up while others had sunk. Loess where she had lived for a time was no more, and instead there were strange ruins on the southern coast.

Did the new lands bring new animals?

She is mostly wondering just for the sake of that curiosity, but also it would be fun to try something new as a snack.

It’s still early enough in the morning that the glow from Derelict’s horns can be seen clearly on the rocks and ruins she moves between. This place is quiet and she cannot determine whether it is with reverence or because it is lying in wait with a trap to spring. Something tickles the back of her neck, and it isn’t the red cobra that is curling between her spines while it slumbers.

It is not curious about this new land, not while the autumn morning air is still too cool to expend any energy hunting.

So Derelict moves quietly, her long knife tail lifted slightly so that it does not drag through the grasses and across the stones - her black eyes alert for any movement.
