    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

can’t stop staring at those ocean eyes.

    He growled at her.
    Growled.
    Like a fucking cave man.

Sabal could feel the anger bubbling up inside her. This man had the audacity to interrupt her conversation and then fucking growled at her when she called him out on being condescending.  She didn’t know why she was really shocked at all, but it didn’t stop the hot flame of anger from burning in her belly. But she just sat there and simmered, content to bite her tongue for the time being.

It was Firion who interjected.  She watched with keen interest as the shadows swirled around the black and gold stallion – taking on a life all their own. Sabal could practically feel the magic in the air – the atmosphere was heavy with it. But she couldn’t peel her eyes away from Firion.  She wasn’t sure if it was because she had been alone for so long or because she had literally been untouched since she had fallen from the mountain. But she practically swooned.  However, she turned uncharacteristically pensive at his words about their shared experience on the mountain.

But he was the first person she’d spoken too who’d been there. Who at least had a flicker of that shared experience – even though it was fleeting. And even though she felt, deep down, that she’d failed in some profound way and that’s why she’d been functionally consumed by the monsters and punished by the mountain…there was a deep sense of relief that washed over her at his words. “I think I needed to hear that,” she said quietly, the appreciation thick in her voice.

But, unsurprisingly, it was Ledger that broke the spell.  Like someone dunking her in cold water, she returned to her body as soon as he spoke up and promptly announced his exit.  She said nothing as he left, which was probably for the best, to be honest. “The entitlement of old men never ceases to amaze,” she says with a huff and an oh-so-Sabal roll of the eyes.

“And they never seem to have the balls to stick around when confronted with a woman with an opinion,” she said, with a theatrical sigh.  Of course, unbeknownst to Sabal, Ledger really did have some difficulties in that department. Poor critter.

However, she turns to Firion now – more serious, but still curious about what he had said – what had inspired such laughter. “The mountain gives, and the mountain takes. I hope the cost wasn’t too great,” she says, somewhat lamely, but honestly it sounded better in her head than ’I’m glad you didn’t die!’ or ’That shadow thing you did was like, really hot.'  This must be maturity.
