    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

we're death defying, coming in like lightning

He should have been afraid of the endless dark, but Roué had not been made for fear. Ever since he had been a small child, he had met the world with such forceful irreverence that fear had never been able to wedge its way into his heart. Even now, in a world stricken but darkness and monsters, the emotion struggles to find him.

Perhaps if he stayed his feet for long enough, it might. But since his family had left the eternal autumn of the Sylvan woods behind, he has found himself unable to remain in one place for too long.

The river is a rush of chaos and noise in the unnaturally quiet night, masking the beasts that linger in the darkness. But Roué isn't particularly bothered by it. Where others struggle to see, the scaled stallion has found himself without such difficulties. Aided, of course, by his draconically enhanced vision. He has found it particularly useful these days however.

Though he has come far from the days of scaring badgers from their burrows purely for curiosities' sake, he still on occasion finds himself struck by the same urges that had led him to that less than noble decision. These days though, there are far fewer badgers and far more monsters hiding about.

Had he known he wasn't alone, he might have thought twice before kicking at this particular beast's nest.  But he hadn't known. In fact, it isn't until he catches the edges of the other stallion's thoughts just moments too late that he realizes his mistake.

Leathery wings abruptly unfurling evening as his warning shout echoes the beasts growl, Roué shoots forward. He's not quite certain what diseases lay in the monster's black heart, but heedlessly he plucks at them even as he bookends the beast opposite the gilded stallion just becoming aware he was being stalked.
