    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Skylight doesn't mind the way her sister abruptly wakes her. Dawn's light sparks enough excitement in her breast that any grumpiness, or sting from the nip on her shoulder, is forgotten. Mornings were for playing and eating, and every day brought new adventures; there was no time to lay around and be sleepy when the air was crisp and the blades of grass sparkled with dew.

The little part of Tephra they called their own is suddenly alive with energy and movement as the three fillies come to life. Sky begins to stretch her legs, testing out a prancing trot while her mother is occupied. The black and gold filly tosses her head in a way that would have been beautiful had she not been so gawky, or if her mane were more than just puffs of sparse hair atop her thin neck.

Something in Sunlight's laugh causes Sky's dainty face to turn in the direction of her sister. Her eyes widen with delight as she sees what caused that mischievous laughter, and Sky is quick to bound in the direction of the flames.  Where there was one orb there is suddenly two as Sky eagerly joins in on her sister's game by adding a creation of her own. But as Sun turns towards her, she playfully tosses a bundle of flames in her direction, and Sky forgets about the orb she had just made in favor of playing with the flames that have been tossed to her.

The neglected orb bounces twice, before taking on a life of it's own in the grasses around them. Despite the humidity, the brittle stalks are quick to catch fire. The heat begins to reach her as she merrily dancing in the flowers they have made, the dry warmth beginning to sting her eyes in the most marvelous way. She twirls in delight amidst a swirl of smoke, finally turning to look at Sun and Mother, to see if they too are enjoying the beautiful flames.
