    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

He finds oblivion in the sea. He finds breath where the briny water fills his lungs to bursting and the sunlight dances in the waves high above. He finds strength where the current mercilessly pulls him deeper and deeper still.

The world is different here beneath it all where no kingdoms rule and Beqanna has forgotten. The sea is a wilderness untamed - a place where monsters hunt and sleep.

He was born on land - his mother a serpent beauty - his father unknown (at least to him). He likes to think his father is the sea. In a way, he isn’t wrong.

As much as the ocean calls him - pulls him deep beneath - he always spits him out again because his mother calls him too, back to Tephra, back to his family.

There are newborns in his mother’s den. He keeps his distance, knowing how protective Sabbath is likely to be. Instead, he calls soft and low in a voice like the deep churning of ocean waves.

    “Are you there, mother?”
