    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Hunting is better than they could have expected. They are not allowed to do so within the borders of Pangea - or, at least, they are not allowed to hunt anything fun within those borders. Mountain lions and wolves and deer are only challenging for so long. Instead, they have become, in a very dark sense of the word, fascinated by the horse creatures that populate this land. So many of them have extra appendages, or brightly coloured skin.

They are still perpetually hunting the green-one that got away and the horrible dragon creature that helped her escape. Which is part of the reason they return so frequently to this forest.

And the other part is that the shadows are ideal for hunting in.

They pick up a trail, and though it is not the prize they want, it is an interesting one all the same. A winged horse. Very quickly they are worked into a frenzy - more limbs mean more flesh to eat.

Instead of just lunging out of the shadows, the smaller of the monsters emerges from the bushes slowly. Her mother remains hidden, obscured by branches and the trunks of more trees, as she quietly moves around to find another spot she can strike from.

The monster in plain sight does not move once she is visible. Instead she stands perfectly still, no indication given that she even notices the winged mare at all.
