    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

ALL THE DOUBT YOU'RE STANDING IN BETWEEN

Nothing was the same for Wolfbane now. He breathed in and felt overwhelmed by a thousand new scents, breathed out and was acutely aware of every single muscle inside of his body that he used to do it. The sky was a more blue shade of blue, if that were even possible. It was. He could hear things from incredible distances. Things like small mammals scurrying over brittle needles, things like the rush of his own blood pumping in a continuous circle throughout his veins. Things like… a butterfly’s wings as they spread apart before falling back together again.

The power that his grandfather had possessed which Bane now worked to control was incredible. Incomprehensible, really. Exactly like being born again only to realize you’d been deaf, dumb and blind in your previous life.

But it wasn’t forgiving. Wyrm had been born a self-manipulator. Wolfbane had only just stolen it away recently. This veritable “pocketbook” of neverending abilities made everyday life a challenge for him. He felt constantly attacked by how bright daylight could be or how noisy the world around him was, and he only had enough time to focus on shutting one particular thing off while another annoying thing took its place. It was exhausting having this much power all at once.

Now more than ever it made sense he should stay away from Loess and go directly to Taiga as planned. Bane couldn’t imagine the idea of trying to maintain any semblance of self-control while a dragon and his brood stomped around.
Just… no way. Loess was too crowded, and right now Bane was simply too dangerous to be around any horse he couldn’t explicitly trust to listen to his warnings if he felt like he was losing his grip on the new powers.

It would be incredibly easy to accidentally hurt someone else without even trying.

So he landed outside of Taiga’s borders with four white wings instead of his regular pair, tucked them awkwardly overtop one another the best he could manage, and strode into the ancient forest with only one purpose guiding his actions. The iridescent blue stripes that patterned his coat seemed to change color all on their own, fading from blue to dark green as he strode deeper and deeper into the heart of this place.

Though he looked relaxed, the pegasus stallion felt his eyes darting constantly to keep up with the faint buzz of the animal life. He knew this place wasn’t exactly empty; he could clearly hear the distinct sound of hooves kilometers away in several different directions. For the sake of haste and nothing else he chose the closest horse in his approximate vicinity and made a direct route to seek them out.
