Alone, she can immerse herself in her thoughts and dive into her predatory nature. A squirrel lies across from her, bloated from the poison that she flooded into its body. Skaide is still an adolescent, still so young, and unable to control the heavy expulsion of venom. For that, the rodent tasted pungent and bitter, undesirable even to one as hungry as her.
So, she nibbles on the grass absently. It’s sparse here and dry underneath the sun. Disgusting as it is, she still eats until her eyes lift to see another across the field that reminds her of herself, of mother. Although curious, Skaide doesn’t leave her place among the cacti and shrubs. Never realizing – nor caring – that she is far into Loess’ embrace, she stares with an unyielding stare, willing him to sate her curiosity.
