    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

for every tyrant, a tear for the vulnerable
in every lost soul, the bones of a miracle

There would a baby soon. Maybe. The possibility alone made her too excited for words. She wants to gush about this to Litotes, but doesn’t want to get his hopes up until she knows for sure. If there is to be disappointment let it be hers alone. Still the idea of a child puts her in mind of children constantly. She all but sneaks out of Hyaline to lurk along the edge of the playground to see the very young playing  in the safety of that place. Then, feeling a bit like a stalker she moves on, thinking maybe she’ll loop around the common lands before heading home, her heart so full of hope even as the despair of uncertainty weedles at her.

The den is south of the playground. She has never visited before, and crosses the threshold cautiously. It is a quiet place, there are fairies here and that makes her cautious, even though she doesn’t see any of them. What Kensa does see, is a girl of about a year prancing through the autumn foliage with a thin branch in her mouth. She is spotted a unique and vibrant orange, her short mane and tail equally bright. The chestnut mare walks slowly closer, dropping her head a little and following the youngster with wide, soft topaz eyes. An ancient instinct makes her whicker to draw the girl’s attention before she realizes what she is doing, but she is drawn to the lone spotted girl.

“Hello darling.” Her voice is silvery and kind, her flaxen mane falling over her blazed face as she stretches her neck, extending her muzzle toward the stick toting youth.
