    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

This part of the world was foreign to him. There had not been a forest here during his time, and yet there was something very old about this land, and how it was able to stick to the roots of the dust and the memory that it carried with it was astounding to him. He was forever remembering scenes from places very similar to these, and now with the power of his birthright plunging back to him, the ginger-colored man found that he was suddenly ill-at-ease with his new set of circumstances.

The all-mother had seen him restored, and he was crawling in his own skin.

The sensation of the magic tingling through his body as it coursed through his veins was charging—thrilling, even—but he found that it was wanting. Being fully within himself and exploring the physical power that made him simply be was something that Ashley was going to miss, and yet, as he traversed down the mountain and had headed for the cover of the forest to test out his abilities, the old King found that his agitation had not ceased with the blessing of his blood, but rather, had incensed it.

He was pumping with adrenaline, and as he walked between the trees, he looked around him for any passersby. Seeing no one, he stretched out his back and pulled his head and neck forward and down, and groaned loudly as the cracking in his body rearranged the bones there. Growing from his spin and shoulder blades were the appendages he loved so dearly, but had been taken from him upon his re-birth into these lands. Growing bone took time, but Ashley was determined to have his wings back on his body by sundown.

He focused all that anger and agitation on the altering of his body, and remembering that it was the fairies who were responsible for the excruciating pain he now found himself in.

    Fuckin’ fairies.

I walked the path, it led me to the end.
